7th grade SAT and ACT scores

Thought I’d add some data. This was my son’s progression:

6th grade: 600 CR 500 M
9th grade: 740 CR 690 M 660 W
11th grade: 750 CR 720 M 790 W
12th grade: 800 CR 800 M 770 W

So pretty much a steady progression. Ordinary public school, no prep courses or anything like that. He’d usually look at a commercial prep book a couple days before or just look at the online sample questions on the CB site. He’s obviously an excellent test taker, but I think it shows that anyone will have a natural progression just from maturation and the ordinary course of high school studies.

I’m in 7th grade and I took the SAT in January. My scores were:

Math: 470
Reading: 510
Writing: 470
Total: 1390

Can this be considered as a good SAT score? After all I am only in 7th grade…

CR: 600; M: 490, W: 550.
I’m very happy and I’m sure in 8th grade I can do even better. esp. in math. Our school didn’t cover a lot of SAT math and I did not study for it.

izzy I think your scores are not bad at all. Yes we are only in 7th grade and we have so much time to improve.

My mom agreed to sign me up for CTY. :)

Izzy, your scores qualify you for CTY Humanities and Writing programs and CAA Math and Science programs. I recommend, if you can, signing up for a CTY program. Your scores, comparatively, were quite good. You scored above roughly 50% of college bound seniors in 7th grade. Congratulations.

Shmulza, you qualify for CTY Math, Science, Humanities, and Writing programs!

…why are there 7th graders on collegeconfidential? Y’all need to go back to playing Pokemon or whatever people do these days. But DO go to CTY; I went before 9th and 10th grade and I LOVED it! My SAT score only went up 110 points from 8th to 11th grade lol…

I’m in 7th grade. here are my scores.
CR-460
M-530
W-340
I have no idea why I had a 340 in writing. I though that I presented my writing clearly in a good format. Maybe the topic was a little off. I don’t know. I hope I do better next time.

Is a 410 in Math on the SAT enough to qualify a 7th grader for the CTY program?

raiderade, which CTY programs have you done? I wanted to do logic but i guess it’s full. so i’m thinking, ancient greek, or Craft the Essay, Etymologies, or maybe Existentialis … I don’t know which is fun and cool. i definitely won’t do math. can you guys suggest sth?

7th grade SAT: 500 CR 530 Math 440 W
9th grade PSAT: 660 CR 680 M 580 W
10th grade PSAT: 680 CR 740 M 560 W
11th grade PSAT: 800 CR 750 M 780 W
11 grade SAT: 750 CR 800 M 790 W

don’t get dejected, you may be a late bloomer

410M would qualify you for a CAA program but not a CTY program :frowning: Though I hear that CAA is very fun as well, just a little less nerdy.

Shmluza, I’ve taken History of Disease and I’m taking Utopias and Dystopias this summer. I also took Crafting the Essay online. Out of the courses you have listed, I’ve heard awesome things about Etymologies at Lancaster; it has one the awesomest instructors ever. My friend took existentialism at Carlisle and said it was interesting but extremely depressing and she wouldn’t recommend it. Ancient Greek is supposed to be fun, though I know it can get quite boring at times. Additionally, the class is usually full of squirrels (7th and 8th graders) which can be overly homogenous at times. I’m not sure I would suggest Crafting the Essay only because it is kind of a boring, standard course and I feel like CTY should be reserved for only really intersting classes you could never get in middle or high school. If you’re really into writing I suggest either taking Intro to Creative Writing or waiting a year and then taking a really cool class like Critical Essay: Pop Culture or Utopias and Dystopias (I’m biased of course).

lol 7th grade SATs.

Math-650
CR-470

Now I have a 2300 composite as a senior.

Actually, that is nearly the exact projected composite score for someone who scored 1120 in 7th because each section is supposed to increase 50 points per year until 11th grade. And your 7th grade score is pretty awesome. A 650 is pretty good even for a senior.

Thanx raiderade. i’d like to try etymologies first. but i haven’t heard from CTY yet. they haven’t updated my information. i don’t know how long i have to wait before i can sign up for my summer camp. i hope the one i want will still be open by then. thanks for sharing…

Well registration for the week ends every wednesday, so if CTY updates by then you should be good to go for the next registration.

Izzy, the information you received about qualifying scores for CTY vs. CAA is incorrect. The CTY website states that in order to qualify for a CTY math class, you must have a 580 on the math section of the SAT OR a composite score (math plus verbal) of 1040. If you scored at or above 630 on the verbal section, you can qualify for CTY math/science classes with a 410.

^Sorry, I was assuming it was only a math score, not combined score.

I had no idea that CTY only updates its info on weds. thanx raiderade. I’ll ask my parents go online to check next wed. and sign me up. my mom complains it’s so expensive. but she promised - a promise is a promise!

i told her how you guys loved it and she is also talking to a parent about it. i can’t wait for the summer to come. 3wks! my mom is nervous. i’m a little bit but above all i’m excited.

i also didn’t know i could do math summer camp. my math was only 490. it sucked completely. i knew it from sample test, the real score was just as disgusting as the sample. but i have no doubt i’ll be much better next year. i didn’t study for math at all, except for 3 sample tests. my school moves so slowly even though i’m in advanced class and my last quarter’s math is 99/100. i can’t believe it. i left so many problems blank in the SAT. I don’t really like math anyway. however, i will study some next year at least it will look prettier.

from shoshi i first learned actually my combined score is higher than 1040, at least comfort my self esteem a bit. lol

i also suck in essay. my mom bet i got 4 out of 12. i think i might have 6. i think i gave good examples. my mom says i write like stream of consciousness(?)
