So… I apparently didn’t pass 8.012. That’s what I get for being too ambitious :(

I know there’s a program for 8.01 students who didn’t pass in the fall to complete and get credit for it over IAP. Does/can that apply to 8.012 as well?

Pass/no record is there for a reason. Don’t fret too much - just pick yourself up and learn from it :)

They’ve offered an IAP makeup class before… email your adviser? There’s also 8.01L - you might be able to switch into that with a dean’s permission. I highly advise getting in contact with Student Support Services - they can help you both with the specific situation and overall improvement.

Worst case, though, taking 8.011 in the spring isn’t bad :)

If you passed 8.012, your only option is to take 8.01 in another term (either 8.011 in the spring, or 8.01 again in the fall). The IAP second-chance course is only for students who got Ds in 8.01, and it’s definitely too late to switch into 8.01L.

That seems a bit weird that getting a D in a harder class doesn’t qualify you for a second chance. Other people have told me about 8.012 cases that did get to do the second chance… maybe it’s something a dean from S^3 could make happen.

Hey there, I was in your exact same boat two years ago. Unfortunately, the Second Chance option isn’t available for NR’ed 8.012 students (just remember - you didn’t fail, you NR’ed! ;D) I haven’t heard of anyone who’s been able to bypass this rule. However, I will assure you that 8.011 will be a breeze ;)
