8.01t

how many of you like 8.01T class? personally, i think i learn almost nothing from that class. but if i take 8.012, i’m afraid i cannot catch up :frowning: anyway, who came up with the idea of 8.01T? why don’t you do regular lecture?

Apparently people used to do horribly horribly horribly in 8.01 lecture format. I personally started out in 8.012 and by comparison, I love 8.01T. 8.012 is simply a HUGE time commitment - I didn’t find it absolutely undoable, but it’s not to be taken lightly. Even physics majors don’t all take it. I don’t mind TEAL too much.

TEAL was implemented because the physics department thought it was a good idea to make people come to class.

From The Tech, 2001 ([here](http://www-tech.mit.edu/V121/N4/4TEAL.4n.html)):

Back in the day when I was a freshman (when we had to walk uphill in the snow both ways to get to 77 Mass Ave), there was no such thing as 8.01T; I think my year was the first where 8.02 became TEAL. I was a smart cookie (or really bad at physics, take your pick) and took 8.01X and 8.02X, which were classes with take-home physics experiments (and hence a large percentage of the final grade came from experiments and psets rather than exams).

do they still have 8.01x or 8.02x this school year?

No. Hence the use of “were” rather than “are” in the last sentence. ;)

yep, i didn’t catch that. anyway, is there any 8.02 class for slow learner (not 8.02t) i can take next semester?

well, you can take 8.02 with ESG or any of the other experimental learning groups. No promise that it’s easy, but you do get a lot of individual attention.

really? i thought the deadlines for applying esg and concourse are already over. you can apply again next semester?

there’s a 8.01L; so there’s no 8.02L, is there?

nope, no 8.02L. And… I dont know anything about ESG deadlines.

they can’t be hard to dig up though.

From comparing mainstream and ESG psets, the two 8.012’s are of very comparable difficulty. The deadline for ESG for this semester is past; you can apply for the next semester. Do; it’s a fun program!
