You may be thinking of the boxes you can buy at the post office. There is a set price, around $8, and you can stuff it with as much as you can make fit.

I’ve used them frequently to send things to my D, usually gets there in 2 days.

that was it!!! thanks

You can get two different shapes of “Flat Rate” boxes from the PO. Neither is very big, but I’ve used these multiple times to send care packages to the kids.

Go to http://www.usps.com/
I also set up an online account and print out all labels from my computer. All you need to be able to do that is some sort of small scale. I’m using one left over from high school science projects!

Surprisingly efficient, the online system has been great. Additionally, you can order boxes to be sent to your house—FOR FREE. I’ve done this too so I didn’t have to go get them all the time.

It’s a surprisingly good system from our Federal Government. And the regular priority mail rates are decent too. I’ve shipped lots of boxes using either regular Priority or Flat Rate and never had any problems with them getting there as early as I’d hoped.

I’ve paid @ $30 to ship packages <10 pounds from P.O., using their boxes. Of course, they are going across country, but seems expensive.

You want to get the Flat-rate, Priority Mail boxes. They are the same size and shape as other Priority Mail boxes but the flat rate postage is independent of the weight of the contents. You must get the box with the ‘flat rate’ markings.

Here’s another vote for Priority Mail Flate Rate boxes. They are FREE at the post office . Alaska to NY in 3 days - up to 50 lbs.

I got ripped off on a Flat Rate box the other day, but I had the darn thing all packaged and set to go and I couldn’t bear to re-package it in the regular Priority Mail box.

By the way, you can order TONS of PM or EM boxes from the post office for FREE and they deliver them right to your house. I like having a supply on hand! Go to their web site. It is completely free.

The flat rate boxes aren’t very big and the rate is up to 8.95.

But if you want to ship books or something heavy, especially a long distance, the flat rate box is an amazing deal!
