Some volunteer work at a local library.

I code a lot. I know over a dozen computer languages. I plan to write my EC essay about a massive web project (16,500 lines of code) which I wrote myself.

Other Info
AP Chem: 5
AP History: 4

Great essays and recommendations.

Each of the SATs was taken one time.

Non-Cumulative Unweighted GPAs:
3.47 Freshman
3.90 Sophomore
4.00 Junior
4.00 Senior (expected)

Rank is weighted.

My school’s average SAT is 1144.
97% of our graduating seniors go to college.

Taking a total of 7 AP courses by graduation and a handful more honors courses.

I guess you mean these are YOUR “top 8” engineering schools.

In any case, all except MIT are matches or safeties (and you have a fighting chance at MIT).

Agreed that most of those are matches and safeties but what are your other AP courses? Overall, though, you’ve got great “stats” and I think you’ll get into Cornell too. This girl I know had a mid 1200 SAT score and applied there regular decision, got waitlisted, then accepted. She didn’t end up going but she was also interested in engineering.

Is my rank too low?

BaltDad, you’re right that these are my top 8 engineering schools. I said “8 top” not “top 8” :-)

AP Calculus
AP Biology
AP Physics
AP Chemistry
AP Computer Science
AP French
AP History

I know it may be a step or two below the other schools you are considering, but University of Delaware has an engineering program ranked within the top five of the country (U.S. News and World Report). I know two kids who chose U.D. engineering over ivy leagues…just another safety school to think about.

Your rank would be on the low side for some of those places, but for the fact that you have a 4.0 UW for junior and senior years with lots of APs (assuming you DO get 4.0 this semester).

Do you think engineers at good colleges are any less likely than other students to do varsity sports? Engineers aren’t usually steretypically the “jock” type…

(16,500 lines of code) jesus…what program/language

Mercury -

Between practice and travel for games/events, engineers generally don’t have time for varsity sports, at least at Division I level. If you want to do varsity sports, consider some Div III schools. Otherwise, do intramurals or club sports.

I agree you are an excellent ED candidate, and wish you the best. I also think you will find at Cornell and other Ivies that everyone has a daunting curriculum, and the Engineering courseload is significant. Nevertheless, scores of engineering students play varsity sports, including football, and there are literally dozens of engineers on the varisty track and cross country teams, men and women. Go for it, and you will find that the associations you make through athletics will be some of the strongest in your college years.

BTW, Delaware is not rated nearly as highly as the earlier post suggests.

Corharcol, I think Hopeful was talking about an Engineering program in particular at the University of Delaware…Chemical Engineering. In Chemical Engineering, Delaware is arguably one of the top 5 in the nation. But you are quite right, in terms of Engineering overall, Delaware does not rank anywhere near the top 25.

So would I actually be able to use Mercuryboard for a web forum or something?
Good Chance and probably in at most of them, but who knows about MIT?

Alexandre, Delaware engineering is ranked 48th by USNWR, but it is 9th in ChemE–all other types of engineering outside of top 50.

btw, Cornell is only Ivy League school in top 10 in engineering.

nealious, yes, for free. You can install it on any server with PHP and access to a MySQL database.

Non-Cumulative Unweighted GPAs:
3.47 Freshman
3.90 Sophomore
4.00 Junior
4.00 Senior (expected)

WOW. HOW IS THAT SENIOR GPA GOING? I HOPE YOU REACHED YOUR GOAL! IF NOT FEEL FREE TO JUMP OFF A CLIFF AT CORNELL! (if you’re not rescinded first that is)

You Practice A Lot Of Track To Be Varsity Track! I Mean Practice Practice Practice A Lot A Lot A Lot.
