800s in Math and Science, but is it worth applying?

Is it worth applying? I have 800s in Math2C Chem and SATM, but I have no national distinction, am Asian, and have a 690 CR score (760 W). I have nothing that really is SUPERB relative to all other applications, so is it even worth applying? I probably will get defered then rejected…Discuss.

Do you have any activities/hobbies/clubs - music, sports, something? You don’t need a national distinction to get in, but you will need something more than pure academics.

Well, for sure, around 87% of applicants are rejected each year, so only you can decide if those odds are acceptable to you. If the only thing you want is not to be rejected, then you probably shouldn’t apply.

Still, look at [last year’s results thread](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/546625-consolidated-ea-rd-2012-results-thread.html) – everybody who posted was pretty great, but certainly not everybody who got in had done something dazzling.

If you’re willing to part with $70, it is totally worth applying  You never know…

Well, you have a 0% chance of being accepted if you don’t apply;)

Assuming that your GPA is roughly on par with your standardized test accomplishments, and you took a strong course schedule (relative to what was available at your school), you’re certainly qualified. The odds, of course, are that you will still not get in, but that’s true for most people (it was true for me). But you seem to think that you have no chance at all, and that’s not actually true.
