I was wondering when the Yale 2014 sub-section was going to be created. And congrats, Yale 2014!

Lets all share out “accepted” stories!

I’ll go first: I was at my girlfriend’s house when I found out. When my parents came to pick me up, I got in the car and broke the news about halfway home. My dad actually got angry at me, because he thought I was kidding!

Needless to say, when we got home, I showed them my acceptance. Lots of crying :)

CONGRATS YALE 2014!!!
I’m excited this finally exists!
So my story…
I had practice, then rehearsal until 8 on the 15th, so I promised myself that I wouldn’t check until I got home around 8:30. From 5 on, I kept hearing every half an hour of someone else I knew who got deferred (a ton of people I know applied SCEA). At that point, I kind of resigned myself to the fact that I would be deferred. When I got home to check, I accidentally signed into the app status site first, which doesn’t show anything, so when I quickly found the SCEA decision website, it bypassed the login page, and the bulldog/singing totally surprised me. I stared at it in disbelief. No homework was completed that night.

Everyone should sign on and make a profile on the Admits Website!!

I’m in China, so it was six a.m. for me. I accidentally signed on to the status website at first too (have it bookmarked) and actually only got the decisions link from the relevant CC thread! I saw the bulldog and basically fainted. I didn’t hear the song because I had my speakers off so as not to wake my dorm-mates, but ended up waking them anyway by squealing with excitement.

I also signed in first. I was at home at almost exactly 5pm, so I just kept refreshing the application status page. I didn’t figure out till 30 minutes later that I was supposed to check on a different page. So, I clicked the link on CC and the music played. But, I only had about 10 minutes to pass out/celebrate before I had to go to a school concert. I did not concentrate AT ALL during that concert :p

I’m so excited for the Yale 2014 section too! For me, on Dec 14th, I came home from school and my mom said decisions were out! I was freaking out because I thought there was no way that Yale would release decisions on the 14th. So I came home and checked the eli account, but it was just the same as it always had been, so I knew there would be a different link. Turns out my mom read an article from LAST YEAR. It was very anticlimactic haha.
Anyway, the next day, I came home from school at around 3pm (6pm eastern time). I turned my computer on and convinced myself I would see a white ‘paper’ message. So sure that I was going to be deferred or rejected, I saw the blue screen and the bulldog and screamed!! The whole day was a blur, it was one of the happiest days of my life. Even though I had 2 big tests the next day…
I’m super excited for Bulldog Days!!

So I was fairly calm all day, as I had totally dismissed the possibility of acceptance. I was looking for a deferral, as a rejection would have really put me in a slump. I was sitting in my bed with my computer, refreshing the page every few minutes, until about 4:50, when I convinced myself that “evening” did not mean 4-5, but rather 8. I lay back and decided to take a nap, to keep my mind off of it. But as I put my head down next to my laptop, I decided to check ONE LAST TIME. I refresh the page, and it says “sign in,” so I try to stop myself from hyperventilating. I enter the site, and of course, the blue page with the bulldog (which I had never heard of before) came up. I thought I was on a joke site. What kind of legitimate university would have an animated acceptance letter. I hit “next” and then it really sunk in. The congrats page. I bit my lip, picked up my laptop, hit the “replay welcome” button, and walked into my mom’s room with the laptop in front of my face, to hide the grin beneath.

After calling everyone I know, I couldn’t stand the excitement anymore. I took my car-keys, walked outside, got in, electronically reclined the drivers seat, took three large breaths, and screamed as loud as my lungs could push. Needless to say, I never took that nap.

My story is kinda like heyknights’ I was pretty much expecting a deferral/rejection the entire day, and was pretty calm about it…I think, because everyone else around me was freaking out. As I logged into the page, the big orange DEFERRED sign from CC results threads (anyone know what I’m talking about? haha) kept popping into my head. I think I literally expected it to be formatted that way, lololol.
BUT. Singing bulldog. YIPPEEKAIYAY!!

^Hey Elfsheen, I’m in China too. Where do you live?
So I had spent the few previous days doing a lot of focused thinking, telling myself that I wouldn’t get in, and that it wasn’t a big deal. I would look at result threads on CC for previous years, get depressed, then distract myself by working on other college apps. I had myself pretty well convinced that I had no chance at acceptance when I woke up at 5:00 am and tried to go back to sleep, eventually giving up. I couldn’t access the decisions till 6:20, but I heard some chanting (I thought) and saw a Bulldog. The self-imposed mental therapy had worked: I really thought I wouldn’t get in, so I was shocked. I just stared at the screen, confused. I remembered a story from last year, when UCSD sent acceptances to all applicants, including those they were rejecting. I thought maybe this had happened. But then I saw people posting deferrals on CC, and really went insane. I didn’t want to wake anyone up but danced around my room for like half an hour, listening to my favorite pure-joy song, “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5.

I’d already applied to UMD, University of Pittsburgh (full scholarship), and Harvard. I submitted my app to Columbia because it was basically done, and I may apply to Princeton for the same reason.

I feel like Yale’s going to be my first choice no matter what, but I’d feel weird not leaving myself options…

On Dec. 15 I had already submitted apps to UIllinois, where I got accepted, and also to Stanford, Harvard and an Emory scholarship program. It was great to be able to forget all my other apps!

I’m not sure about Yale enough to withdraw my other apps, but the more time I spend on the admitted students site the less I can imagine rejecting Yale.

hi i’ve read all your posts and i was confused
cus i’m a junior in highschool and i havent started my college apps yet
how did you guys start already if you guys are going in 2014?
i’m confused…lol

Hi,
I think the same thing happened to all of us. I got up at 4 am (I am from India) to sign in and check the applicant status website.; I was expecting the decision there - but there was nothing. I then checked CC to see that dozens of ppl were already posting their decisions so something was wrong. So I went to the admit website, and got the almost blank page which said “Single Choice Early Action Decisions online”, expecting to enter my username and password one again. And then I see the bulldog and in that instant, I gasped - I thought that I hadn’t even signed in - were they doing it for everyone by chance? I didn’t even read “Congratulations and Welcome to Yale class of 2014” - I just pressed the Next button. And then I read the first line and screamed and woke up everybody in the household. My grandmom thought that some tragedy had happened and I was crying out loud …lol
It hasn’t sunk in still

Hey, y’all. My daughter was accepted early last year (December 2008) and then decided to take a gap year. She’ll be joining you in the class of 2014. She was very happy (like, screaming) when she got the news, as she never liked any other university after seeing Yale!
