On my high school transcript it says that I have completed Italian 2 after my freshman year. Does the fact that I completed Italian 2 count as 2 years of a foreign language since I actually completed 2 years when I include 8th grade. I know that it’s a stretch…

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, it counts as one year of foreign language. your “level” has no effect on the number of years you have studied the subject.

Yes, it means that after completing your freshman year, you will have taken 2 years of a foreign language. In our NYS public high school, students begin their formal HS level foreign language in 7th and 8th grades. For example, completion of Grade 7 and Grade 8 Spanish is the equivalent of HS Spanish 1. They take Spanish 2 in 9th grade and Spanish 3 in 10th grade. This way, they can get their Foreign Language Regent’s requirement completed at the end of 10th grade (the equivalent of 3 years of foreign language). Same principle in regards to French. Our public school only offers Spanish and French.

Oh whoops! I didn’t understand that you took it in 8th grade. From reading too quickly I thought you had STARTED italian as a freshman and entered level 2. Sorry, the user above me is right. haha.

Update: I just called USC, one of the schools I applied to, and they told me that my 8th grade year of Italian doesn’t count as a year of a language :
