911!!! Plz HELP! IT'S A 1950!

Hi. I am a junior. I took the SAT in my sophomore year and got a 1900 in June, 2011, with 600cr 660w, 640m. After a ton practice, in College Board, Barron’s, a little McGraw Hill’s and Kaplan’s, I got a 1950… I frigin’ 1950 in Nov! The prob is, I had improved to the 700-800 range in prac tests (even got a 800 in Math in one test… aha!) and I dunno what happened! I got 670 in math in noV! 700writing and 580cr!!! I practice so hard and am DYING for a 2200+… School ain’t helping much so am on my one on this one… It doesn’t even offer the required curriculum! I AM REAAALLY FREAKIN’ OUT HERE! My last trial is in January… tick tock… ANy help!!! pleaaassseee??! I wanna get that over with to concentrate on SATII and AP’s… which btw school doesn’t offer either… so i really need all the help I can get ppl! God am freakin’ out! Is it too late to consider AP’s??!

First some CR- Do not allow fear. It is a mind killer. Your freak out isnt helping so dont allow it.

Secondly in order to score better you must stop getting wrong answers. Duh. But which ones of your answers were wrong? Get the score report and find out where you are missing questions. Are they in geometry? Passage reading? Are you missing all level 5’s or are you getting sloppy with the 2’s and 3’s? It important to get information on what you are getting wrong if you are going to stop doing it.

Next, is there any particular reason why January has to be the last SAT? You could easily take the May and even if you only practice an hour a week you will make improvement.

My opinion is that time management is one of the most important things in SAT score. If you are taking a practice test now make sure you are adhering strictly to the time limits. Make sure you a bubbling. Learn to manage your time off a clock or watch like you will need to during an exam.

There are a lot of old QAS test out there that you can find and use for practice. When you do make sure that you may attention to what you get wrong. For instance if you are missing complementary angle or 30/60/90 problems a lot, start making a file with those type of questions. You can then use Grubers or Barrons to get more practice in that type of question. Or just have someone change around the existing problems so they are essentially new material.

If you read CB you will defiantly form the impression that people with a study plan and who dedicate themselves to it can make tremendous gains. Control the fear, plan out your work, and dedicate yourself to it.

Thanks a million argbargy. but here’s the deal… i don’t want to redo the SAT after Jan cuz i wanna concentrate on the other stuff! Can I ace the 2200?! I have practiced a lot and am willing to do a prac test everyday! is it approachable or just wishful thinking?!! Have you takin the sat? do u know anyone who improved that much?!

Btw, i like the link… too bad it’s easier said than done XP

More CR- Begin with the end in mind.

What is your end? A 2200? Of course not- that is just an arbitrary number. A career? So you need college… what college? Does that college need a particular score? Probably they have acceptances in a range of scores.
Remember that your real goal is not a 2200. And it is not a 2200 in January. As soon as you get acceptance letters from your colleges your SAT score will not matter anymore. By Freshman year if anyone every asks about your SAT scores again I’d be surprised.

Can you do it by January? I think it depends on why you are getting things wrong. Right now you are super scored to a 1970 and if you study over Christmas break that would give you enough time to go up the 120-150 point people seem to get out of dedicated study plan. That would get you to a 2120. It does kind of boil down to why you are underscoring.

In the past someone linked to these old QAS’s

Might help you prep.

For SAT, the easiest section to increase your scores is Math, Do not try to solve many questions in Math, but try to read questions carefully instead, SAT Math is all about adding subtracting, dividing, and multiplying at the end.

For writing section, when you solve many questions, you will find patterns, be aware of sentence agreements and modifiers in the question.

CR… there is no specific clue, try to read a lot of books and memorize some vocabs you dont know.

Thanks a zilllion argbargy. The link was very helpful… both links this time  You too noprocastination! I will do my best to prac till i drop!

noprocastination,
Btw, I tried ur way in Nov and got a 660! (not exactly what I am aiming for…)

Any more suggestions?

bump bump bump…

The constraints that you’re placing on “when” to take the test are self defeating. If your goal is 2200, which may very well be a stretch fro you, delay the retake to June or (my recommendation) October.

Between now and test day practice meticulously. There are many opinions of what that means, and you may wish to post that question on this board, or possibly consider taking a test prep course.

The College Board shows convincing statistical data that retakes on average produce slightly lower score. So you need to practice with patience and method.

In general it is unwise to take the actual SAT as a practice test, and in effect, if you go through with your plan to take the test in January, that’s what you’ll be doing.

no no… I have practiced a lot…and got waay better scores on actual collegeboard former exams and online coarse prac tests… I dunno… I am working hard… But What do the 2200’s do? I have been practicing… and correcting my mistakes… WHat else?? I have a friend who went from 1850 to 2050 and my teachers in school say that with my performance in the prac tests they give me, I am supposed to go beyond the 2000… my score was shocking to all… so i dunno what might be wrong?! And Jan IS my last… so any advice on how i can improve to my best by then?!

ppl… plz help… seriously

Dude.

Plan the work and then work the plan. Everyone wants to succeed, but nobody wants to practice.

You dont have time to be on CC (or the Internet) looking for magic. Until after January, it should be you, a timer, a pencil, practice tests and photocopies of the bubble sheet.
And that’s it.

^^ he’s right

nicely said actually…

I was lookin for advice from the experienced you see… But i knew it all along… that I should just prac like hell… Wish me luck… Off i go!

(dude, have you ever considered psychology?! I’ve been telling maself the same things, but u just did it… :P)
