9th grade ee-apply (prep school & boarding school)

Hi,
I’m a current 9th grader at the Bronx High School of Science. Last year I applied to a couple of private schools (Trinity, Dalton, Horace Mann, Riverdale, Fieldston, Grace Church) and I also took the SHSAT. I was accepted to Grace Church and Fieldston (wait listed from everywhere else) but I decided to go for Bronx Science in the end. I’m doing well at Bronx Science and I think it’s a decent school, but the commute is a little tough for me.

Question: I was wondering if there is any point in me re-applying to Trinity and Dalton. (I just think that they might have better college prep and I enjoy smaller group discussions). There is also the possibility of applying to BS, but my parents aren’t so interested in that.

Congratulations on finding a home for ninth grade. Many students apply to repeat or enter later in boarding (9th repeat, 10th, 10th repeat) and that isn’t unusual. But they enter with the SSAT and I really don’t know how the tests compare. The scoring is percentile based and quite tough. Maturity and executive functioned is a big factor in your success.

I took the ISEE last year, but I’m not sure if it’s similar to the SSAT.

There are a lot of similarities. But you would need up dated scores for the year you apply, age adjusted, and for the new test.

10th grade is not an entry point for Dalton and they rarely if ever takes a new 10th grader, unless there was an extraordinary situation.

I can’t speak for Trinity.

Boarding school gives you many more options and all have 10th grade entry.
