<p>Take TOEFL first, score above 600 (on Paper-Based-test), or above 100 (on internet-based-test), then apply. American colleges are heavily based on writing.</p>

<p>No, I have never really heard of a ninth grader entering berkeley…I think that if you feel that you want to go to college in the U.S., you really ought to think about taking the
TOEFL, because writing is heavily emphasised for all college admissions</p>
