A 17 inch laptop that's actually portable?

Right now, I’m leaning toward the 17" Unibody Macbook Pro. It seems like most PC manufacturers just throw the idea of portability out the window past 15" or so. I’ve seen (and carried) the 17" MBP in person, and it’s just a tiny bit larger and heavier than the 15" MBP, which is itself pretty easy to carry around (for me). However, beasts like the HP HDX 18 are huge and clunky, and their weights almost grace the double digits. Are there any other laptops on the market with large screens that don’t weigh a ton? $3000 is my limit.

For $3000, I’ll carry your computer around for you.

The 17" MBPro is about a pound lighter than most consumer grade 17" lugtops. It’s also well built with the solid aluminum frame - though I understand from another thread that some PC lovers insist that Macs are built to be pretty not for durability (though according to usage surveys Macs last longer). If you can find something about the same weight, check for frame flex, etc.

But that said, I’d get a smaller notebook and a separate monitor, keyboard & mouse for use at my desk. I’d rather have a smaller mobile screen and a larger - 19" minimum - desktop screen.
