A Back-up Plan

If we dont get in, does anyone know anything about how to petition for admission. Looked on the website but couldnt find anything.

From what I've read, you should call or write to the Office of Admissions. I'm too lazy to read the entire thread (I don't want to freak myself out about not being admitted), but you can. :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-florida/653569-appeal.html

that was depressing...

Don't be depressed, I know someone who did it successfully! He was very borderline, and in love with UF, and...this kid just drove up there. And got in. Not kidding. I don't know him that well or I would have more details, but seriously, from my knowledge he just plead (pleaded?) his case and they let him in, conditional on good senior year grades, and retaking like to Community College (dual-enrolled) classes for better grades over the summer.

You can definitely petition.. I know lots of kids who did that and were admitted for Spring. Sometimes, you can even petition, get in Spring, then try to get in for Fall. You can take classes at Santa Fe in Fall so you'll still be apart of the UF environment and football season. If you don't get in (which I'm SURE you will) you can live at Windsor Hall (or Ivy House) if you're a girl. They're luxury (less expensive though bc they're privately owned) residence halls next to campus for UF students but Santa Fe students intending to transfer can live there too. Don't worry about a back up plan though---worry about what gator shirt you're going to wear to school on Monday!

I hope youre right.....Im only top 18% so I'm not sure if they do an automatic cutoff.....stressed here

Also freaking out.....

SAT 1900
ACT 29
Top 20%
3.6 UF calculated GPA. / 3.98 cum wGPA
Plenty of EC's
Usual NHS/Key club/yearbook academic editor
241 vol hrs
Cheer captain
People to people student ambassador (France, Italy, Spain)
School tour guide, peer tutor

Instate / Hispanic female

Hoping for the best! :)

My back up plan is to go to my community college for the summer, get my AA because I'm only 24 credits away, then transfer. UF is the only school I applied to... I'm so dedicated it's borderline crazy lol

The appeals process is not as easy as people are making it seem. My year I was rejected and appealed and out of 300 appeals they only reversed 10-15. You have to have substantial circumstances to appeal. But I say go for it, you have nothing to lose, I was told it would be a waste of my time by every guidance counselor under the sun, and obviously they were wrong. After decisions are out, I'd say give it until the following Friday before calling, a ton of parents and students are going to be calling the next day. They will be able to give you info on when the appeals process begins and when you can have the appeals materials sent to you. The deadline is usually in late march and decisions are given as they are received. Good luck to everyoneeee!

are you serious, only 10-15 ^?

What about all the empty seats from the people that choose not to go to UF? Why can't they let in more people to fill up those seats?

Also is petitioning personally different from the appeals process?

Because I would rather speak to them personally than communicating online.

There are no empty admission seats. UF will admit about 11,000 students on Friday for Fall, Summer B and Spring. From those 11,000 about 6,300 will enroll. Last year UF's enrollment calculation was off and 6,500 was the number of enrolled students. Because of funding and over-enrollment last year, as well as limited scholarship monies at other schools and current economic conditions , UF will easily fill the 6,300 freshman slots. Remember from that 6,300 are included athletic scholarship students and Talented Twenty Program admitted students.

Im willing to pay full tuition to go there.

Inidianguy, I don't think telling them that will get you in, just in case you were wondering..
