Princeton University mathematician and Nobel Prize winner John Nash, whose life was the subject of the film “A Beautiful Mind,” was killed in a taxi crash along with his wife in New Jersey on Saturday.
Nash and Alicia Nash were in a taxi on the New Jersey Turnpike when the driver lost control and crashed into a guard rail, said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Gregory Williams. Nash was 86; his wife was 82.
Awful and sad.
I knew his general story, but not the most recent chapter where they reconciled and became advocates for mental health issues. Do to that at that age, when they have gone through so much themselves, is truly a wonderful thing.
Very sad.
I always wear seat belts and especially in taxis, they are nuts! http://www.abelprize.no/nyheter/vis.html?tid=63693
I think the King of Norway is still here, he came to dedicate a mural and deliver a commencement address.
Once a taxi driver scolded us for looking for seatbelts. He was offended that we did not trust his driving skills! Oh my. I would have walked instead of being driven by this ass, but Mr. calmly reminded him that no matter how good someone’s driving skills were, they would not help if a crazy driver decided to make a wrong turn into his cab.
A lot of people have been very seriously injured in NYC cabs because of the lack of seatbelts. There was an outcry about it years ago, and I think things improved somewhat. But probably not enough.
