hello. my college says you can get a window unit with no more than 7,000 BTU’s. how would they know if it was more? thanks

if it doesnt say on the box/where it is being sold, someone in the store will help you

Chances are they wouldn’t unless they do room inspections (check the policy for your housing department). And I highly doubt they would do room inspections.

^lol they do too.

Should say online as well.

Probably cannot tell if between a 7K. 7.5K or 8K and there is no label. But any bigger, you can pretty much tell by the size. Go to a store and you will see. 7k is very small. If they suspect, they can always find out by the brand and model.

7,000 is small, but so is a dorm room. I don’t think it’s worth the extra money or risk of getting in trouble.

And RAs CAN inspect rooms. Usually this is to make sure there’s no alcohol or anything like that. But since electric bills at a college are already very high, violations like that are probably things they’re told to look for. Most colleges don’t allow window units at all.

If you want to follow the rules, than look on the box and it should be listed there. If you are thinking about a bigger unit, ask in your schools subforum and see if any from the school is actually looking to make sure that your AC is too big.

At my school they limit the size of fridge you can have to ~4 ft^3 and mine was ~4.5 and no one minded.
