Hi guys, as you can tell from the title, I’ll be considered as an international student. Stern isn’t my first option but I totally love the program and I sincerely ask you guys to tell me more about Stern. I especially would like to know about the Finance program at Stern, since it’s my passion, haha.

So before I get into my questions, I’d like to give some general information about myself.

I’m a Chinese female who currently is a junior student and studies in Toronto, at a very unique high school (program wise).

My freshman and sophomore grades weren’t good due to depressing family problems: Freshman courses overall was around B+.
For Sophomore year, I’ve failed 2 courses (they weren’t important, but I’d be so ugly to be shown on the transcript). But despite those two failed courses, I’d say my overall grade was still around B or B+

Extracurriculars/awards:

-DECA Provincial Competition (Placed top 10 overall)
-Attended DECA International Leadership Conference
-Top 4 DECA Provincial Competition Written proposals

Postition:
-Sophomore year - Junior Executive
-Junior year (currently) - Secretary
-Senior year (I’m planning to apply as one of the two co-presidents. I’ve been DECA since freshman year, and I had great leadership skills.)

-School Open-House ambassador
-Piano Level 10
-Piano Winter Recital 2nd place 2010
-Piano Winter Recital 1st place 2011
-Piano tutor (taught 2 kids at prepatory levels)

I don’t they aren’t extremely outstanding and I believe there are always room for improvements, and I will be making improvements.
I’m planning to apply for several internships in the summer.
Also, I’ll be joining my school yearbook executive team, as well as debate team and do more contests in the upcoming senior year. (I’m also thinking to start my only business? I know a lot of unis out there love to see entrepreneurship experience.)

I know quality is always better than quantity, thus I won’t just join random clubs/teams blindly, but I’m aiming to reach for leadership positions and maybe getting recognizable awards.

I know the timing will be really tight and hectic since it’s senior year, but as long as my application gets improved, I’m willing to work as hard as I can!

I’m aiming for a 2300 SAT score, and will be taking SAT II as well.

Although my interest and passion is business, I highly appreciate the existence of art and music, and I have high respects for all the career fields. I adore photography, design, art, and music. I’ll be joinong several clubs that’s art-related as well.

I know Stern is not as competitive as Wharton or HBS or Sloan, but I know there still are tons of people will be applying here and it is selective. So my questions are:

Will the admission office pay high attention to freshman and sophomore grades? I know a lot of schools look for drastic improvements, and I’m committed to say that’s what I’ll be donig this year. Make my grades outstanding and improve.

Average SAT score range. I’ll be taking my SAT in my senior year (I don’t know, a lot of CCers here are recommending me to take the first one in May or June, to get a source of experience. I don’t know yet, I’m still deciding :S If you have any opinions, please do let me know.) If I score extremely well on the SAT, will that give me a better chance?

ED1 and ED2 admission rate? And what exactly are they? (I know, call me dumb here. I’ve tried to look up online but the links didn’t really do me the favor.) I’d like to know the deadlines for these EDs and if anyone can post up a link, that’ll be fantastic!

Let’s just say, if I apply for ED1 and I got rejected, do I still have a chance to re-apply for ED2 or just RD?

I know that’s a lot of questions, but please be patient and bear with me. I’m eagerly to know the answers and I don’t want to see my dream crashed. :S

Okay, that’s pretty much it. Again, I’m just a girl who’s always willing to learn, try, and make improvements.

Thank you guys so much for your patience and I’ll look forward to get replies for you! :)
