A Chance for College?

I’m confused on how I should go about getting into college. I’m already twenty years-old and I have only a GED. I failed high school. In fact, I never made it past freshman year. My GPA? What GPA? It never made it to the left side of the decimal.

It is not that I have learning disabilities. My parents are disabled and I had to take weeks off school ( which my school refused to appeal) to help them at home. Now a home nurse is taking very good care of them and I feel I have done my part.

I plan on attending The University of Tennessee in Martin. It is where most of my old classmates attend. I’m just not sure on which loans I should aim for or even the process in how to get a loan or admission. I’m not even sure if someone with such a horrendous school record will be able to get a loan to attend college.

I’m hoping to be able to cut in second semester if possible.

I am sorry to hear that. That is very diffucult for you and your parents. If you didn’t get into TENN at Martin yet, call admissions and ask them. My best guess is they will ask you to take 15 credits at a community college first, and if you do well they will evaluate you. If you are in, and you need money the best loans to take are federal loans which you would have to apply for through fafsa. I beleive the site is www.fafsa.gov, if I am wrong google it. Fill that out, send that to TENN at Martin and if you get in they will send you a financial aid package. I hope this helped somewhat my friend

The site is [FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov) :)

Also, if you are totally lost about applying, go to the University of Tennessee website and find something that resembles “prospective students”. It should have some kind of blurb on how to apply. I wish you luck, really.

Does anybody know if community college would help first?
