A choice between canadian schools

I have all my US schools that I’ve been accepted/waitlisted to sorted/figured out and ranked in terms of program strengths and what appeals to me [comparing them to one another].

However, I’ve been accepted to all of my Canadian schools as well, and I applied to a lot of them not because I had an unlimited budget because I honest-to-god believed that I would not get anywhere due to my special status. Right now I’ve received pretty good scholarships from some of them, and I am waiting to hear back from the rest. In the end, a lot will depend on how much I receive [compared to packages from my US schools]. Really, what I am trying to get an opinion is people’s experience, or any sort of unique knowledge that they have on these schools in terms of life/research/program experience. Any sort of input is appereciated! (I am looking at biology/biochem(for most)/biomedical/and bio-eng major for one) :)

The list: [U. of Toronto, McGill, McMaster, Queen’s, U. of Waterloo]

Do you mind to share your stats? I’m interested in Canadian schools for S.

Waterloo is very good for engineering. Personally, I’d go to UT

It depends on what you want, really.
Are you willing to go to a really large school? If yes, then McGill/UT/Waterloo would be options for you.
If not, I`d say go for Queens. Queens offers the more typical American-campus life.
In terms of programs, if you want biomed, Queens/McGill are great. Waterloo and possibly UT leans more towards engineering.
But UT has the best research facilities (I think)…in terms of prestige, well, UT/Queens/McGill are pretty equal.

Like I said, it depends on what you want out of the next 4 yrs.

it’ll really depend on what deparment you applied to.

waterloo is famous for its applied computer science (yes applied!) because of their relation with microsoft. (the following is taken from a prof) rest of the deparments in waterloo are not so well recognized academically. However waterloo is in no way a bad school.

for engineering, I’d pick UT hands down. western ontario and queens both have awsome bussiness programs (or was it commerce? sry… wasnt an area I looked much into)

mcgill is a pretty good school overall, but i ahve no idea what their strengths are since it wasnt a school I was interested in. however its pretty well recognized as a canadian school (or. thats the general consensus from this board)

McGill is good if your future goals are medicine
Queens is excellent for research (the have something like a 50million dollar new chemistry building)
UT is also good for research but not as well recognized as Queens

PS I am a Canadian citizen and know a little more about the Canadian schools than the US ones!

Just don’t pick McMaster. I still regret just visiting Hamilton… The rest are all good choices, it simply depends on the kind of environment you prefer (big/small university, big/small city, subtropical or tropical climate ;), civilized or not civilized legal drinking age/bar closing time)…

“I still regret just visiting Hamilton”

haha Hamilton aka. metal city. I hated it too (we had to spent the night at it’s … ehem ghettos), but for some reason Mc’ appealed to me, may be it’s because of their friendly and helpful admissions officers. :p

“tropical climate”

Oh it’s McGill then. ;)

does anyone know if St. Francis Xavier or Western ontario might be good?
also what schools on can. offer the “liberal arts” school type of program?

are you talking about ontario?
in that case Ottawa, Toronto, Brock
