A Comprehensive Directory of Majors in All Colleges

Hi. Does anyone know if there is any official database/directory where I can find a comprehensive list of all majors offered by all 4-year colleges? Even if it is not in one place for the whole country, perhaps there is a list for each state or some other official listing; that’s fine as long as it is comprehensive. I assume the colleges get accreditation - so there must be a repository somewhere. I tried searching websites like “US News” that allows searching by major, but looking at the results and comparing them with actual colleges, I have strong doubts about whether their database is correct. Thanks a lot.

Official? No.

Even if there is a list somewhere, there’s no guarantee that it will be accurate or updated. So you would still want to validate the information with the university.

What is your objective? What do you plan to do, should such a list exist?

If you tell us that, posters might be able to suggest alternatives.

NCES has that information, with the College Navigator web site at College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics being the most common way to access the list of programs and majors at each individual college.

NCES is the closest I know of, but I note they have a standard list of major codes which the college then has to select among when reporting. To really understand the actual majors complete with different concentrations and so on, you really have to go to each college website.

I love Jon’s data visualizations. It’s staggering how many Bachelor’s degree the online only/predominately online schools are granting every year, wow!

For OP, CollegeBoard used to publish a book of all majors, but it looks like that hasn’t been updated since 2018, so you would have to verify data on websites.

College Board’s Big Future site does a nice job with sorting colleges by majors offered along with other criteria. If they log in they can save their “finds.”
