A couple of quick questions about college apps

<p>I was on the school debate team last year, but not this year because the senior that is in charge of it does not like me. I was also unable to get into Model United Nations as a delegate this year for this reason. However, I am pretty sure that I will be able to be on both the school debate team and a Model United Nations delegate next school year (August 20 ish). The problem is that I would not be able to highlight that, because I don’t think I will be sending my senior year’s first semester report to colleges. How do I overcome this?

<p>When to send applications is sort of complicated, but here are some general comments:</p>

<p>There are actually several application categories - Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular Decision. “Early Decision” means that College X is your first choice, and if they admit you then you are obligated to go there. ED applications can be due as early as November 1 (that’s the earliest I’m aware of). “Early Action” means you are interested enough to apply pretty early, but you aren’t obligated to attend if admitted. EA deadlines tend to fall between ED and and RD deadlines. Regular decision deadlines are commonly from Jan. 1 through Feb 15 (some a little earlier, some a little later).</p>

<p>So depending on when the application is due, there are definitely ways for you to include your senior year activities. There is a place on the application where you list all your extra-curriculars along with the years in which you did them. Some students also include a resume with the application.</p>

<p>In addition, if you are applying regular decision, the colleges will want to see a mid-year report before making their final decision. The ED and EA colleges will want to see that information too, but they will get it after they’ve already made their decision on you.</p>
