A couple questions about Scripps...

For the analytical essay, do you think a graded DBQ from AP US history would be ok? It’s hand-written but I believe its the best I have.

How hard is it to get a JES Scholarship? If you’d like to share your stats and whether or not you received the scholarship that’d be great.

What do you think my chances are of getting into Scripps?

Let me know what you think : )))
Thanks!

Was the DBQ a timed essay? IMO, a typed paper that was given time to be worked on carefully and a certain deadline might be better… my paper was an AP Lit paper from junior year on Hamlet. You can always just call the admissions office and ask what constitutes an analytical paper.

I wasn’t awarded JES, nor invited for the JES weekend, but I know that there were 1 or 2 people on here that were, they might be able to answer. If you look at one of the past threads there are some stats of those accepted, you could look at mine and others over there.

Good luck!

Thank you
I think I’m going to call Scripps about the analytical essay.

Hey! So, I got the JESS, and my stats are in the Official 2008 Decisions thread if you’d like to know.
The merit scholarships are extremely competitive and I know this year they had an astounding number of applicants for only 40 or so scholarships. One of the things the Dean of Admissions said during a speech on the scholars weekend, is that many of the people who apply for the scholarship are qualified for it, and they use the essay and a lot of the personal things about you (volunteer work, extra curriculars) to narrow it down to the most interesting applicants who then get invited for the weekend. I think there were about 200 girls who got flown to Scripps, which is still a very large number. On campus you have interviews and question and answer sessions. They narrow it down from that.

Your stats seem qualified for admission. Of course, that’s only part of it. You’ll have your essay and supplemental questions and all that too. Good luck, have fun, and read books… because they ask about that!
