a famous story on human psychology a myth?

anyone who has sat in a psy or soc 101 class learned about this story…is it actually a myth?
<a href=“Debunking the myth of Kitty Genovese”>http://nypost.com/2014/02/16/book-reveals-real-story-behind-the-kitty-genovese-murder/

This has been known for a while. I wonder whether today’s psy or soc 101 classes still use this example.

Yes. It’s an urban viral tale.

We were neighbors of the Genovese family when I was little, and my mother was friendly with Kitty’s parents. Her youngest brother was my HS classmate. I always think of the pain her family must feel when her name is dredged up again and again.

I don’t remember meeting Kitty, but I gather I did. Judging by the picture, she looked like her father. I remember him as a great guy, very jovial, very funny and nice.

Looks like that the true scandal of this story was “…the police did not respond to Samuel Hoffman’s call”, yet not even this debunking article pays much attention to that fact.
