A few B's...

Yay!
Sorry…so many questions…
In general, would you say that Rice admissions officers have more of an invested interest in their applicants than do other schools?
I have read that on a few threads, and I just wanted to receive some other perspectives.

i cant comment on that with absolute certainty. It seems that way. Not you in particular, but the applicant pool in general. Some colleges do that

It makes sense for Rice. they need to fight HYPSM, and this is a goodway to go about it

I think it’s possible.

Pure speculation, but here’s my train of thought:

With HYPSMetc, the adcom is going to get an applicant pool that is so strong, it really doesn’t matter who they pick. These schools have basically admitted that they could scrap the class they chose and take a new class from the applicant pool and not lose anything. Rice doesn’t have as big of an applicant pool so they need to take a closer look at each of the applicants. In a twisted way, it seems Rice needs to be more “selective” because they aren’t as selective as HYPSMetc.

That’s not to say Rice ISNT selective, just not as much as HYPSMetc.

interesting…is anyone else willing to give their input?

But if you look at it, Rice’s acceptance pool is just as strong as HYPS. The only reason why HYPS seems so “selective” is because that they get so many applications. They simply just get rid of the ones that don’t seem strong at all. Rice has a really strong pool (as strong as Duke) and they are just as selective as Duke, their acceptance pool has pretty much the same credential as Duke’s acceptance pool, and both school are extremely good and selective. So I would not say their acceptance isn’t really that less than HYPSM etc. Remember, each school has something different they are looking for. Duke and Rice don’t look for good grades completely, they look at extracurricular with a great emphasize (not that HYPSM doesn’t) but I think Duke and Rice does more.

^ true. Rice is starting to get more and more applications. now like HYPSM, theyhave to outright reject many more applicants
