I was considering applying to Trinity Unversity in San Antonio as a back up school - but where I live ¶ no one has heard of it. Now I’m thinking of applying to Rice instead, where I think I have a shot, but it definetly wouldn’t be a back up school.

What is the weather like? Is it humid?
What are the dorms like? I know Trinity’s dorms are really nice.
Are there a strong English department?

The weather in Houston is very humid, but the winters are nice! August and September can be rough, but everything is air conditioned.
The dorms vary- it is a residential college system and even within a college the dorm rooms can be quite different- i.e. ranging from doubles to a 4 person suite with a living room.
I believe the English department is strong-everything at Rice is pretty darn good, but I’ll defer on specifics there.

i’m applying to rice (i’m a houstonian) as chem and english majors; personally, i think you have an above-average admissions chance since you are from out-of-state and 50% of rice’s undergrad body is from out of state. texans, and esp. houstonians, are vastly overrepresented in the application pool; i think more than 10-15 kids will apply to rice from our HS alone; Rice is particularly strong for Pre-meds, since rice has a long relationship with baylor college of medicine, although Rice’s prelaw is stellar too
