A Few Questions...

I asked my school counselor today regarding whether or not colleges look at high school attendance (tardies, unexcused absences, etc.), and my counselor said that our high school does not include this in our transcript, so I am assuming that whatever college I apply to, they will not look at my attendence record. Is this correct?

Also, do colleges look at your cumulative GPA? If so, would having a 4.3 GPA with several B’s be decent for colleges such as UC Berkeley, UPenn, Stanford, and Northwestern?

As a high school student, I am also involved in a number of clubs. I was wondering if colleges would think it was weird if I joined a club/association for Muslim students, myself not being a Muslim (in fact, I’m a Christian), but I do have a lot of interest in the Islamic faith. Would this in any way affect my college admissions in a negative way if I included it in my list of extracurricular activities?

no, actually that sounds amazingly unique!

and I’m a Shia Ismaili Muslim

Yes, colleges look at your cumulative gpa, as well as for trends from one year to the next. The colleges you listed are some of the most selective in the country, and the UCs tend to be very numbers driven, so the higher gpa the better. It’s hard to know what you mean by “several” Bs, and your weighted gpa is also difficult to evaluate as HSs weight differently. Also, along with your gpa, colleges will evaluate the rigor of your coursework relative to what is offered at your HS.

I don’t think attendance matters much because some kids might have like mono and end up missing about a week of school. It would not be very fair if they got rescinded or rejected for such a cause.

It’s class rank that matters, not GPA. If you’re near the very top of your class with several B’s you’re in the running. If at your school several B’s put you below top 10%, they would be major reaches.
