Is your given EFC per year or per month?

One of the questions on the FAFSA said something to the effect of “16a - 16b” to find the value. The A value was 0, but the B value was 12000. I put 12000, and now I see that with my updated EFC, the value changed from the 2000 range to the 7000 range! Was putting the 12000 value right?

EFC is per every academic year/every 9 months.

Not sure about #2

In your case, 16a-16b is 0 - 12000 or -12000, in which case, wouldn’t you put in 0?

well, i have no idea which would be right. this is a serious question, as it affects my efc by quite a bit.

but if someone could clarify that question, it would be VERY helpful.

Call the financial aid department at one of the schools to which the FAFSA will be sent- they should be able to help with filling it out. Every school we visited told us to call any time with questions.

The instructions say 16a minus 16b and to put 0 if the answer is negative. Go back and make your corrections. You should have put 0.
