<p>Just a tiny clarification: Are you asking about zoology as a branch of biology - concerned with the classification of animals - or as some people use the term: studying animals?</p>
<p>For the first, most of the UCs offer zoology within their Biology departments and would be excellent choices. Many of the 23 CSUs also offer zoology majors or concentrations.</p>
<p>If you are interested in Animal Science, UC Davis probably takes top honors in California, and there are several CSUs that are good in that area: Cal Poly, CSU Fresno, Chico, to name a few.</p>
