A good/decent college

What are my chances of getting accepted by a good or even decent college?

Here are my grades from high school so far:

Freshman Year, First Semester:
Health - C-78
CP Language Arts - D-72
CP Biology - D-74
CP Geometry - D-72
2D Design - C-77
Symphonic Band - A-92
[summer school] CP Geometry - B-80

Freshman Year, Second Semester:
Computer Applications - B-88
CP Language Arts - D-74
CP Biology - D-73
CP Geometry - F-61
3D Design - C-78
Symphonic Band - A-99

Sophmore Year, First Semester:
CP Language Arts - F-62
CP Algebra 2 - C-76
CP Chemistry - C-78
CP World History - D-74
Wind Symphony - A-99
French I - B-89

I have also been in Marching Band and French Club for one year.

Dude. You’re only a sophmore. My twin sister had the same grades but improved upon them vastly in junior and senior year and got into Smith ED. Your story ain’t over.

Well, I guess your transcript isn’t exactly what we’re used to on here. If you can’t bring your scores up, I’d look at state schools, prove yourself there with good grades, and transfer somewhere better. I don’t think many schools will jump at the chance to have a lower-range average person, but it looks like you have an aptitude for music. Any awards, any sports, sat scores?

I haven’t taken the SATs yet. But I did win most improved in band my freshman year, and I got second place for my Laws of Life essay for my grade year for sophmore year.

Your grades would definitely need to improve for any shot, awards or not. So far I only see 3 As, and they are all in band classes. Start pulling off 3.5+ GPAs and then you could possibly redeem yourself, especially if you can come up with an excuse.

For better ideas though:
Do you have any idea yet what your general career focus is? (does not have to be too specific obviously)
What state do you live in and what is the API score of your HS?

I would say:

Write down 2-3 state schools that you are interested in.

1-2 schools that you would love going to.

Look up their interquartile range for SATs, and figure out the average GPA. Work really hard your junior and senior year to raise those grades up to the average GPA at those schools, and you will have a solid shot. Take the SAT & the ACT, and figure out which one you have done better in.

And since you’re a good writer, you might want to apply for some local/city/state writing competitions. It will definitely help you stand out.

It isn’t too late to improve. I’m 100% positive you can do it!

you got a C in health??

try pulling up your grades, in most decent colleges multiple C’s, D’s, and F’s won’t cut it
