A good science vocabulary book for the ACT?

I’m looking for a good, thorough vocabulary book to study word definitions from for the Science part of the upcoming ACT test.

Preferably, a book that covers the terminology in all or most of the ACT science subjects that appear on the test: Biology, Earth/Space Sciences, Chemistry, and Physics. Beginner to intermediate probably, seeing as how I doubt the ACT will have -too- advanced material on the test.

My thinking is that this will help speed up comprehension/speed on the Science section, since that is my main problem in it.

Any recommendations? I’ve been looking around but haven’t come across anything that looks promising yet.

Don’t bother, and I’m never seen such a book either. Understanding what the terms actually mean contributes very little (in fact, it could make you confused as the ACTs have been known to contain faulty science). Just relate the graphs to the terms and that’s all there’s to it. If you want, substitute the terms with x,y,z.

Almost everyone says that studying the science topics does not help any and can possibly harm. One or two people have mentioned knowing the vocabulary can help a lot, but you say you don’t think it does.

How can one work at improving the score, then? If the main problem i’m having is finishing on time (having to guess wildly at the last 5-10 problems) and understanding the material (not knowing what they mean when the topic is about dominant genes or what they mean by F2C4N1 -> N3O2H2), what can be done to help that other than becoming familiar with those topics?

It’s true that just about every answer is in the passage, but when you have to stop and give a great deal of thought, minutes worth, to many of the questions just to derive the answers because of total lack of knowledge on the subject, the sluggishness really adds up.

I’ve never tried this but it’s www.scienceactprep.com. You could get phone tutoring, it’s quite expensive but it’s the only thing i’ve seen that could possibly work. I too struggle with the science section and have considered buying it.
