The prospective group has lots and lots of parents and staff to help you navigate the entire experience from application to acceptance - and everything in between. I tried to join but they want a profile picture. You can ask for genuine information to make sure the users are authentic but asking a profile picture is primarily racist.
There are LOTS of people, students, scammers, etc try to get into the college group. It is not an anonymous group and it’s reasonable to know who is being admitted. That said, much luck to you during the application process.
There is no need for a picture. Some of us do not feel comfortable posting pictures online.
There is a lot of relevant information that can be asked and checked to keep out the scammers. You want a picture to keep out people whose look you do not like.
The UMD Facebook group certainly helped our family. I never got any negative impressions from the group management or the participants. I think it’s a well run group and appreciate them providing the service.
BoroMom is on the FB group. It’s been really helpful with dorm pictures and such
