A in APUSH for 3 quarters but final grade is a B

So I received an 85 or something in the first quarter, and an 89.6 for the 2nd and 3rd quarters in APUSH. My fourth quarter grade ended up being a 91, and my Final Grade ended up being a B. Will the Final Grade affect admissions decisions at top colleges even though it really had no effect on my GPA since I got straight A’s after the first quarter?

An 85 is an A? Can I go to your school? I’d have an A+++++++

@CSIHSIS

He said he got an A for 3 quarters, so the quarter he got an 85 he didn’t get an A.

The rest of the grades (89.6,89.6,91) round up to a 90+.

It depends how your school calculates final grades. If your school averages the 4 quarters (numeric average) then you should have a B.

However, some schools will convert each quarter (or semester) grade into a letter, and then average it. In that case, you should have an A.

As for your question, the B shouldn’t affect admissions heavily, but it certainly will hurt your app.

At my school they average in the midterm/final to determine the final grade

Usually, admissions officers place less value in the objectivity of semester / quarter grades for AP classes due to their large variability across the country.

If you got a B in the class, but got a 5 on the exam (assuming you took the AP test), then the college will assume that your class grade was deflated.

If you got a B in the class, but a 2-3 on the exam, then the college will assume that your class grade was inflated.

As I said, colleges will use the AP test score as a point of reference for your final grade. One B won’t kill you, just don’t make it a habit.

If you add 85 + 89.6 + 89.6 + 91 it equals 355.2. Divide that by 4 and it equals 88.8 which won’t round up to a 90 (a)
