Hi I have an A in my AP Chem class, but am afraid that I might get a 1 on the AP exam b/c i did not study for it. In the event I do get a 1 or a 2, will it affect my college admission? Say, I do well on the SAT Chem tests, the SAT, and obtained a stable 4.0 GPA yet I received a 1 on the AP exam. I’m just rly scared b/c im also taking AP Lang and the AP Calc AB exam as well. I have Cs in AP Calc and AP Lang. Also do I still submit my AP scores to applied colleges even tho I received 1s on my AP exams?
Getting an A in the AP class but a 1 on the AP exam reflects poorly on the quality of that AP class at your school.
If the AP class taught you well, you should not need a high volume of cramming to prepare for the AP exam, since the class itself would provide the preparation.
Generally AP test scores are not used in admission.
As @“Erin’s Dad” says, AP test scores are generally not used in admissions. They are, however, used to place out of introductory classes. In your case, if you score poorly, you would not be able to use your AP Chem score to place out of an intro Chem class at college. So if you do score poorly, tuck it away, don’t look back, and don’t send it in. Sounds like you might need to take that intro Chem class anyway, so enjoy it.
This question is really moot until July when you receive your scores. College admissions is stressful enough without worrying about things that might happen.
You don’t submit your score to colleges and don’t request the credit.
However it may indicate your school’s préparation is not very good and you’ll need to play catch up before college.
A lot of schools do ask for AP scores on college app as a way to evaluate your grade in the class.
For your sake, I hope you’re already a Senior and have a spot in a college already. Otherwise, very competitive schools will want to look at as much data as possible.
