A little levity about summer vacations... or is it a trip?!

A friend sent this to me and I laughed all the way through it with fond (and some not so fond) memories of summer vacations. Enjoy!

Maybe I’ve never been on vacation! Thanks for sharing.

Laughing/crying–fond memories or PTSD??(With 7 kids, you can bet I’ve been on a lot of TRIPS.)

So many laugh out loud lines!

I have never once confused a vacation with a family trip. If even one kid is in the mix, that is NOT a vacation. I have not had a vacation in over 18 years.

DH and I have done a few vacations-some cruises and a heavenly trip to Tahiti/Bora Bora/Moorea. Those were definitely awesome.

Trips-yeah, btdt. Glad we did them, but yes, trips indeed.

In about a month I am driving 1,000 miles with my dog so my son and daughter-in-law can spend time with “my” pet – I think I’m going on a trip!!!

One of my favorite sayings is that “‘Family vacation’ is an oxymoron.”

Thanks for sharing, although I think I already knew the distinction:)

If you’ve broken out the “all we could afford to do growing up was go camping” - lol!!! Yes, I’m sure I said this on every single trip.

We have said for many years that if you take the kids, you’re going on a trip. If it’s just me and my husband, it’s a vacation.
Funny article - thanks for sharing.

ETA - interestingly, I’m getting ads for a “vacation” for a family of 4…

So funny because it’s so true. Thanks for sharing.

I’m glad to hear that so many enjoyed it as much as I did!

“If your final destination has a kitchen, you are not on vacation. You are on a trip. If you have to grocery shop before or during your time away, it is a trip.” SO True!!!

Another reason I won’t go camping. Cooking and cleaning!
Thanks for the laugh!

“If you are the Default Parent and/or the Stay-at-Home Parent, you aren’t even on a trip. You are on a work trip, and, in a perfect world, the entire “journey to a place” would be a damn tax write-off. The only known and quantifiable “break” you are getting from life is that for about a week you will not have to open and sort the mail. Other than that, it’s business as usual.”

Default Parent here and YES.

Yes, but a change of scenery and pace can be lovely too, even if it is not quite as nice as a real vacation. No shuttling for sports and other events is nice.

One time we went to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun with our three kids, ages 4, 7, and 10. DH got some kind of bug and soaked in the bathtub for hours on end. Then he complained that I wasn’t taking care of him! Good Lord, I had to restrain myself…
