A McCain-Huckabee Ticket?

Anybody else think that McCain-Huckabee is likely going to be the Republican presidential ticket? Frankly, I find this possibility disturbing on more levels than I can count, but I wouldn’t rule it out.

Never. If he does I will vote for Obama (caveat, that is if Hill isn’t the VEEP). Bullet and I talked about it this morning, I think it would be more likely Romney, than Huck. I also think it possible he might go outside the box

I’m with bulletandpima on this one.

I was thinking that if Hillary gets the Dem nomination, there could be lots of folks voting for McCain instead. BUT I have to say…if he chooses Huckabee, I doubt that will happen. Think of this…if something happens to the 70-something president, we’d have a preacher in the white house. Sorry…but that is not something I would like to see.

McCain-Huckabee might make the evangelicals happy but the Republican elite find Huckabee, with his stories about frying squirrels in his popcorn popper, revolting.

I think a lot of folks would be worried about what thumper1 mentioned: the possibility of preacher pres.

Ahh, no…

^I hope that you are all correct.

Huckabee also doesn’t have enough electorals…look for some one to shore up the east coast.

There was a very interesting segment on NPR yesterday about the religious references contained in Huckabee’s campaign speeches and the fact that many of his evangelical supporters don’t know their Bible well enough to make the connection. Here’s an article that highlights some of those references: http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/8070</a>. How anyone who professes to be an evangelical could miss the David and Goliath reference, however, is beyond me. I guess that knowing God is one thing – knowing the Bible is evidently something else.

Hey, he just won Kansas, and has racked up a bunch of electorals from the south. Tim Russert thinks McCain might select Huckabee as his running mate; there have also been several op-eds written on the topic.

Why do the Christian conservative posters here oppose him? I am just curious, because he does seem to have quite a following, but some people (in real life too), whom I would think would support him, don’t, and I am trying to understand why.

It’s a subjective thing, at least with me. Nice enough man, reasonable governor, but, lacks the personal presence and executive persona to be the leader of the United States. Plus his wife is nice enough but sorta goofy. Obama has it; I think McCain has most of it. Romney has most of it too.

Seems likely. McCain has been referring to Huckabee as “my friend, the governor” in last few republican debates.

Heard the NPR segment on Huckabee’s biblical references. I was floored that so many who (on the surface) should have out-bibled me, didn’t . Good grief, not to know about the 5 smooth stones? (or the fact that he picked up 5 but did the job with one?) The widow’s mite? The loaves and fishes? These aren’t exactly obscure biblical stories.
I’m afraid that the overall lesson is that the majority is illiterate in all of the “great books”.
Huckabee’s potential to actually be elected scares me on so many levels.

Re: post#12

McCain refers to everyone as “my friend”. It is a little distracting. ;)

I lived in Kansas, Huckabee doesn’t surprise me.

H & I were discussing this very idea earlier today. We certainly hope it doesn’t happen. If he were to become VP it would be bad enough. If he were to actually end up President … I hope it never happens.

A McCain-Huckabee Ticket?

Hmmmm…uhhhh…gimmee a minute…uhhhh…I’ve got it! What has four legs and no chance?

I heard a commentator railing that all everyone talks about is that Huckabee is an evangelical…he said what they should be shouting about is how great Huckabee’s FAIR tax ideas are because (supposedly) it gets big government out of our lives, etc. In my opinion, the opposite is true. It makes every merchant and cashier a Federal government tax collector extending government into every transaction. It is bad enough people have to be state tax collectors. So for me, his tax plan is the biggest turn off of all. Huckabee’s economics stink. His FAIR tax plan is idiotic and so was the commentator. Huckabee should be glad the media doesn’t talk about it much.

My daughter attends a large university in Kansas and by no means is every Kansan an evangelical. In fact, being from Connecticut, we were quite surprised (and relieved) by the liberal views that we found on campus and in the surrounding area. I realize, of course, that this is not true of the entire state, but Kansas has its liberal enclaves just like anywhere else. Note that Obama won the caucus there. Whether liberal or conservative, one thing I will say about Midwesterners generally – they are some of the most down to earth, friendly, genuine people I’ve ever met and most will bend over backwards to help someone in need. That’s not a bad thing.
