A Meta-thread to save us all time

^^ still waiting.

You should request an extension immediately on the grounds that the school is being unfair in expecting a top 1% student to follow any rules. Your d should have as much time as she needs, your little princess shouldn’t worry about datelines with all she has on her plate–the performance art and all. Furthermore didn’t they offer to have someone come by to pick up the card? why do they expect parents to do everything, sigh

lindz, thanks. We’ll consider that option if all else fails.

BTW, she’s a priestess, NOT princess.

Anybody else?

oops of course–it’s that other dad that has the princess

Its all one big world - timelines don’t matter! Just send in your acceptance when you want!

If you send a fax, be sure it’s double spaced.

kitkat is so right. It’s a small world after all.

Also, as other posters have said, though I don’t really read their posts because mine are the only really informative and helpful ones, your priestess is so much more important than anybody else.*

They’ll come to you.

*I can actually pretend to mean this bcs none of my exalted darlings is applying this year.

Actually, violadad, I’m starting to feel a little skeptical about this priestess bit. If she’s legit, how come she can’t do something with that ceremonial knife and a stone table and a full moon and perhaps some innocent squirrels? Can’t she just, you know, GET A MESSAGE to them?

Also I think it could count as volunteer hours/community service if she could pull some cosmic strings to get everybody else’s kids in too. It would definitely be using her powers for good, and that’s always okay, right?

Well, OMG, violadad, congratulations on getting the 300th post!

OK, so, I really need my personal 700th post to my account because I like round numbers, so let me ask you this? How has this thread managed to stay in the Parents’ Forum rather than having been moved to the Cafe? Less importantly, if my DS’s deposit is due on May 1st, does that mean that it just has to be postmarked on May 1st, or does it actually have to arrive on May 1st?

Those 2 points are exactly what we’re trying to figure out!

OP back…

Omigosh–I leave this thread unpoliced for an evening, and look what happens–pure, unadulterated (unadult?) naked grabs at post counts.

I’m shocked, shocked, at this over-reliance on stats.

Now, I’m off to blaze another trail down Pathway A, (or was that B), for the good of you all who still have children to get into college, and I expect all the post count grabs to be totally clothed by the time I get back.

Coming very late to this thread, and after spending so much time reading it all, I really don’t have time to answer. Some of you are just so darn competitive - I think you’ve forgotten that IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU. Geesh.

I would like to say that violadad’s D is absolutely nothing like my own children, who have been successful wherever they go and whatever they do, so therefore, I really don’t think V-dad’s kid has a chance. My kids play respectable instruments (accordian, bagpipes, and maracas.) Their test scores and grades are as high as they are WITHOUT PREP! (It makes me mad they don’t get extra credit for that.) They have no time for ECs because they are so passionate about their music - especially the maracan. When I called some schools - way back when - I was told that being a maracan was a great asset to diversity. Perhaps those of you with younger children may wish to consider this.

But I think the best v-dad’s D can hope for is the PEP (prison education program.) Save your application fees.

So flame me now for being honest.

Oh, and about staying in Parents Forum–I (being totally serious here) absolutely believe that you all have filled it with some of the best wisdom about college admissions that you’ll find anywhere on this site. It should stay right where it is.

If it did get moved, would the post counts get rolled back? I don’t want to lose any!

There is another level beyond Senior Member isn’t there?;)

Do emails need to be double spaced?

violadad: Dear violadad’s D: After due consideration, the adcom at prestigious, go ahead, have your mouth water to come, college A, has met and find that sadly, we do not have room for you in our supercalafragilistic class of 2012. It was a touch (sic see Dartmouth thread) decision, but we are sure you will thrive wherever you go.

Scrawled note at the bottom: Sorry priestess. All our spots for Inuit-Polynesian iditatrod didgeridoo playing priestesses have been taken by others more qualified. However, you do have a guaranteed transfer if you can get that GPA up and agree to pay full freight. Paperwork will follow.

Please see the full freight part. We won’t care in two years about the particulars of your transcript. 3.0, full freight. Got it?

In the meantime, how about the local CC? You can save money for your junior year (FULL FREIGHT remember?) and get that GPA up.

So on behalf of the adcom, may I say, congratulations. The committee is impressed with your credentials and will be sending you paper work on guaranteed transfer. Congratulations!

^^violadad, International Question

There used to be some MIT hopefuls on CC with 2400 SAT I and 800/800/800 SAT II who could have answered your question. But, in despair over the negative responses to their “Chances for a perfect scorer?” posts, not realizing beforehand that they had really hurt their chances of MIT admissions by stubbornly refusing to answer even one of the M questions wrong, they’ve left CC.

I recommend sending the reply to U Tas by F-22. True, they also had a problem with the International Dateline at the beginning of March, but they got it all worked out in a mere 48 hours: [F-22 Squadron Shot Down by the International Date Line](F-22 Squadron Shot Down by the International Date Line - Defense Industry Daily)

According to Maj. Gen. Don Sheppard (ret.), as the F-22 squadron was deploying from Hawaii to Japan, when they crossed the International Dateline, “all systems dumped, and when I say all systems, I mean all systems.” The problem was traced to errors in a few lines of code.

But who could have anticipated that F-22’s would ever need to cross the International Dateline? The hyper-careful, hyper-neurotic 800 scorers, that’s who! But they’re no longer available.

And don’t even get me started on checking Lockheed Martin’s units with NASA’s own, before launching the $125 million Mars Climate Orbiter.

Also, if you keep editing your posts to correct punctuation, you’ll soon be trailing HarrietMWelsch in the post count. Clearly. you need to use, a new post: anytime you want to correct puncutation. or spelling.

Looks like I better get my posts up! I didn’t realize how important that was. Ok, this one counts right? Does it matter how many words we use? Or does it go by … what’s that word that counts letters and spaces? Inquiring minds need to know!

GreyDad’s are gonna’ clear up! Put on a happy face! lalalala
