A Meta-thread to save us all time

How many posts do I need before I get to the next level?

Oops! I forgot to put on my happy face: :)

I have to go somewhere. Please do not post anything more for the next three hours.

binx! My children need to get IN somewhere. Why should you going “somewhere” take precedence?? I need help. And chances threads. Now!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m getting pretty skeptical of some of what ViolaDad has posted about his D. I’ve gone and searched through all of his previous posts, and some of the details just don’t add up. I think he’s leaving something out.

^^ I, for one, would like to read her (possibly flawed) essays, the likely cause of lack of success in admissions. I know we usually PM the essays, but since viola shared so many other details about DD, maybe he’d be willing to post them here, as an exercise for all. PLEEEEEEEEASE :)

We have a big problem. We had considered Pathway A and Pathway B for our DD, but then realized that all Pathways A-Z would be passe be the time she applied. So in a stroke of brilliance we put her on Pathway Theta thereby signaling not only her originality but her burning passion for both classics AND physics.

The problem is that not only has she rebelled and flat out refused, “If I thought Pathway Theta was my life, I’d slit my wrists right now!” she said. She has gone and made up her own alphabet, and is now on Pathway Urbu. Well, more power to her, we say. Except now she insists on turning in all her school assignments written in her (made up) alphabet, and her teachers refuse to translate. Help! Her grades are plummeting.

Should we go to the superintendent and insist on special accommodations?

geomom, the teachers should all be fired, at once. Skip the super and go straight to the state secretary of education. She can get a dual-language, English / Urbu program established in your district pronto. Developing a widely accepted curriculum - what a nice EC!

Hmmm. You might want to post this in the musical theatre forum, geomom.

I’d say she should just pursue her passion. If a college doesn’t appreciate it, well, that college wasn’t a good fit anyway.

violadad,

Your daughter sounds like quite a person, and I am sure she will be successful in whatever she does. But if you have prepared her well, she should be able to handle the whole dateline thing. I think it is time to let go and let HER decide what to do.

But really we need to focus on my DS. I was talking with someone associated with TOP ELITE PRIVATE SCHOOL in TEPS LEAGUE about DS and his achievements. They though his resume was a bit thin, and when I said he found a cure for cooties, they said that might be good enough for SOME OTHER TOP ELITE PRIVATE SCHOOL in TEPS LEAGUE but not for TOP ELITE PRIVATE SCHOOL. After all, he said, cooties is not cancer.

I was crushed, but realize I still have a few more years for him to find the cure for cancer.

He also said that soccer-playing, cootie-curing, cushion-and-blanket fort building club presidents who score in the 100 percentile are ‘a dime a dozen’ at TOP ELITE PRIVATE SCHOOL. So I thought we’d drop the soccer playing and take up the boomerang (I’d have to change the screen-name, though).

Any thoughts about how to get into the boomerang circuit?

Oh, and some good news about the macrame potholder DS made at SLEEP AWAY CAMP. I sent a picture of it to a gallery in New York City, and they plan to have a whole exhibition devoted to his work. The whole house is now covered in string, beads, popsicle sticks, macaroni, gold paint and glitter. Should I contact 20/20 about this or should I have the gallery do it?

OP back.

So, I’m going to reveal the true meaning of this thread now. I thought it was obvious, but apparently not.

It’s a “Meta-thread” in honor of the Mets. Duh. Since they beat the Pirates last night, I thought it would be doubly obvious. Sigh.

Don’t you all know that baseball is a Met-aphor for life?

geomom:

I can help with your problem.

When my D was 7 years old, she invented her own language and corresponding alphabet. She began to incorporate this new language in her second grade assignments and homework. She also downsized her penmanship to a near microscopic level because it saved ink and paper–one must always be environmentally conscious.

Her teacher, not wanting to appear ignorant or to be insensitive to the multicultural tide, pretended to comprehend the language and gave my D all A’s. This continued all through her school career. Teachers in our school district are afraid of being politically incorrect. And no teacher wants to admit they cannot speak more than one language. Anyway, my D is graduating this year as her senior class valedictorian and has gained admission to one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the universe. One can only hope that her college professors will be equally cowardly and that she eventually gets into law school, med school, and business school.

I think fake languages are the new path. Congrats to your D for being a pioneer. You must be so proud.

BTW if the teachers at your school are not as ignorant as the one’s at my D’s school, you’re going to have to transfer–unless you have compromising pics of the superintendent? (PM me for more info on my district.)

Shajenivskovlah! (BTW, that means good luck in my D’s language) ;)

well, garland–I’m from NY and you got me…though IMHO baseball isn’t nearly as exciting or interesting as Inuits, compulsive hand washers and fake languages. Strike three…I’m out.

Perhaps since I just made up that meaning, you can be excused for not picking it up.
I mean, it’s my thread, and I can hijack it anyway I want, right?

If we are talking New York sports, I think it should be Red Bulls.

What’s a metaphor?

To keep red bulls in.

garland–hijack away!

I wonder if thread hijacking could be considered an EC–it is a fine art, after all.

Kids get on that–add CC thread hijacker to your resume today before everyone else does and it becomes as stale as Model UN and dog sled racing. I’m sure garland will write you a glowing recommendation if you ask nicely. ;)

"It’s a “Meta-thread” in honor of the Mets. Duh. Since they beat the Pirates last night, I thought it would be doubly obvious. Sigh. "

I am, frankly, appalled. It is clear to absolutely every thinking person that the Yankees are the only way to go. The fan experience at the Met tier is simply not comparable. The amount of debt is irrelevant if one can purchase the whole package of game, parking and refreshments and flash the Yankee logo at will. There will be plenty of time to pay off the cost during a successful career making lots of money. Go for the prestige of the Yankees. Really. It’s the brand that counts.

Ah, we now know the meaning of “zoo” in “Zoosermom.”

Why is it that athletes are always getting so much attention!!! I don’t care about sports, so I don’t think anyone else should.

“Why is it that athletes are always getting so much attention!!! I don’t care about sports, so I don’t think anyone else should.”

Nice attitude there. You must be envious of all the kids who once played little league and now will be getting full rides to top colleges. Had you played little league, you would be sharing in the good fortune. Too bad for you.

I prefer the universities that offer the best blends of academics and athletic life, by which I mean buying tickets, doing the wave and binge drinking.
