A Meta-thread to save us all time

I have not wanted to toot my kids’ horn, but I’ll let you know what hook they all used at MIT: they discovered and have now cloned extraterrestrial life. It was a stretch for the adcoms, but since they grew up on a remote island in the south Indian Ocean, MIT agreed to take them.

My D is now accepted at every Musical Theatre program to which she applied. The most recent, on T.I.T.S’s north-central campus, was very impressed because D taught both Britney AND Madonna their newest dance steps. D is considering a sex-change because she heard there are more job opportunities for men in these fields.

I still want a roomba.

vballson, from what I hear that ranking is not yet available. They had to go back and recalculate for the “vows of chastity” factor.

Excellent hijack effort, though. Scroll back up for some ideas on thread hijacking as an EC.

Re your WoW interest: Surely they have a College Admissions tribe. Or an admin mount. Or something. Are you Varsity WoW? Have you registered with the NCGAA? Have you met with any coaches yet? I’m sure you’re behind already but don’t feel bad. I understand WoW spec visits are the BEST.

Also, we like your mom’s posts, so go already. Sheesh.

vballson here again.

Dear Mrs. Welsch,
I already have plenty of ECs. I’m level 90 in WoW and have assembled a supreme guild. I’m the leader, so I’ve got the leadership thing covered. I’m also superultra-advanced in Halo (2 AND 3), and I have a little side practice doing brain surgery up at Stanford. Plus too many other ECs to count, even better than that pathetic time travel thing that one of the other parents keeps bragging about. But I’m more modest and so I won’t list them all.

(wait till I tell mom she’s at post #100! she’ll be so proud!)

I think that posting on CC should count as an EC. Moreover, it should be transferable from parental unit to applicant so that applicant can get not only EC credit but instant legacy status.
Y’all note my post count, won’t ya?

But back to me. Of course.

Recently I learned that there are several Very Prestigious Scholarships (no lunch money, purely prestige) available in First Grade. Some of the advantages include first in line for recess, chocolate milk every Friday, and best coat hook guaranteed.

I’ve tried everything to get S2 to write his essays. They’re only ten pages, for crying out loud. First we took away his screen time. Then we took away candy. H thinks we should withhold all food and water but I think that’s really harsh, don’t you? He should at least have water.

What really hurts is S2 just doesn’t understand how important this is to me, I mean him.

Can anyone help?

^^ If the scholarship was for first spot in carpool line, I’d write the @##$$%^ essay myself

Silly me - I thought this was a thread about a structure mounted on the ends of the central spina in Roman chariot races. Oh well.

Are the iditarod dogs still available?

Ummm, excuse me Harriet, but I believe it was ME we were talking about. At least on the last page. My, how fickle we are. Anyway, to answer your question - removing food and water is barbaric in my opinion. Although there will probably be less resistance than if you were to remove something more essential - like Wii.

I think jym has a great idea - why don’t you write it. If you write with your left hand (or right, if you are left-handed) it will probably look like he wrote it. And maybe he can color in all the O’s or something, so he feels ownership.

I too wish to know whether violadad figured out the international date thingy. I understand that international dating is considered something of a hook - shows acceptance of diversity as well as basic social skills.

Greydad, you’re stuck on 13 - not a good place to be. Hurry up and post something.

That was the most depressing trip ever to a bank. I wired the money to S but the bank clerk on his side of the country says it could take 2-3 business days to credit it to his account once they receive it in a few seconds. I actually paid $20 for this grief.

May 1 is tomorrow, right?

La, la, time to teach him how to write a rubber check to his new landlord. La.

I’m passionately dedicated to this fiscal approach to financing education. I call it Pathway Zed, because I used to live in Canada. Garland, please know that I will fight for my view to the death, just like we did in the War of l812. Nobody agrees on which side won that one, either. If you say the U.S., you’re only showing your ethnocentric hardheadedness. In the spirit of the OP, I’m passionate about being passionate.

I can’t BELIEVE everyone FAILED to pick up on the reference to the pregnant man! It’s outrageous what some people will do to give their kid a hook! I just hope that baby is already taking notes on the experience for his or her college essay.

P3T, S2 has graciously offered to show your S how he makes Play-Doh checks. Your S’s landlord will no doubt find them too, too cute!

In exchange, does your S have anything to offer S2 in the way of Eructation Acoustics? In our experience, I mean, in S2’s experience, young men in college are fine primary sources for such material.

The first child of the pregnant man will make many mistakes and be the snowplow for that family. The one to watch out for is Fetus #2, “Deutero In Utero.”

Harriet, darling…Thanks for the bouncey-bouncey checks!

Returning the favor: Eructation Acoustics? I think my son and his buddies snort Viagara to deal with that problem. YMMV, I mean…HMMV.

“I have not wanted to toot my kids’ horn, but I’ll let you know what hook they all used at MIT: they discovered and have now cloned extraterrestrial life. It was a stretch for the adcoms, but since they grew up on a remote island in the south Indian Ocean, MIT agreed to take them.”

My child cloned the ad com officers at HYPMPDDBCC. Problem solved.

Obviously your kid is headed to a school with a core curriculum.

Harriet – I don’t get how Eructation Acoustics will help your kid get into I-Banking. We all know that the only way to rank a college is how many of its grads go into I-Banking. I’m not sure what I-Banking is, but the fetus of the pregnant man is already planning to go into it, and will practice counting on fingers and toes in the womb when not busy taking notes for his/her future college essay.

Violadad, Obviously the problem is that you think April 31 is a date. (Post #297)You must have been in the non-college prep kindergarten, the one that didn’t have to memorize that little poem about the number of days in each month. Obviously, your D’s app was late and that’s why they rejected her.

You shoulda used a spreadsheet–she coulda been a contender.

14

Isn’t “thingy” spelled “thingey?” I’d like a ruling.

Okay. I like to rule.

From Urban Dictionary:

thingy

noun

Used to describe an object on the spur of the moment when you have a sudden brain fritz and forget exactly what you were gonna say was.

Uhh…get the report!..program…thingy.

[There are more definitions, but in the interest of obeying copyright TOS, I only copied the first one.]

I didn’t memorize a stinkin’ poem about the months. I counted on my knuckles (I was educated during the time of the caveman, clearly…)

Everyone at UChicago knows that the deadline for submitting applications is Baker Island Time…[The Uncommon Application :: How Late Can I Apply?](<a href=“College Admissions at the University of Chicago”>College Admissions at the University of Chicago)
This is something you’ll never learn in one of those Ivy League schools!

My s had much higher GPA than violadad’s daughter and his EC’s were much more interesting. Additionally, his community service was well over 4,000 hours, mostly spent feeding orphaned ferrets and children. However, where violadad’s d was accepted, my son was waitlisted at UTas! Do you think he was overqualified for UTas and they took that into consideration? We are not planning on applying for financial aid at all. Do you think that could have done it?
