A Meta-thread to save us all time

violadad is correct, of course; they use the squirrels at Scripps, and you can even buy them in the college’s bookstore–it’s a regional thing.

“But I, I took the Pathway less travelled by. And that has made all the difference.”

He was being sarcastic and facetious. Neither path made any difference at all.

Really.

You guys realize how much time has been spent on the “meta-thread to save us all time,” right? #443 and counting. ;)

Personally, I have been saved from about 3 hours of household chores (by this thread) just today. (I bow to the OP.) Now, that’s a savings that I can live with.

fencers,

I can’t help you with your roomba, but I watch dancing with the stars and can judge a rumba from my plaid babcalounger just as good as Len, Carrie ann and Bruno. I can also sing 1-2-cha,cha, cha. Do you think I should let the adcoms know so this can get me off the waitlist?

too late!! we saw her facebook and her my space pages.

sybbie- your #420 is way off base. D has never had a desire for T.I.T.S.

jym- as for the heftiness of my endowment, it has been repeatly described as being “overly generous”. Just thought you might want to know.

I need to thank most of you all for your thouhtful replies. And garland thanks for starting this thread, it has indeed saved time. So many questions have been answered, pathways bulldozed and rebuilt.

D’s intent is now clear. We’re all set. Decision’s made.

We have done what we did. Maybe I’ll tell.

Most likely, I won’t. You can buy the book.

May all your kids get EXACTLY what they deserve. I mean it. I really do.

Just like my dear ol dad used to tell my mom:

Play with the emphasis a bit. You’ll get it. Most of you anyway. A few of you don’t have a clue.

Violadad,

Has it ever occurred to you that clueless people have feelings, too?

Your elitist rants are just so, so, so…elitist!

Oh violadad, how nice and thank you. I think nothing is too good for me too. What is so special about clues anyway? Everyone is always telling me to get one. My piano teacher always told me to “play with emphasis” too. I knew that was good advice.

VD-
Glad to hear your endowment can support many undertakings

By the way, Violadad, if her career goal is druid priestess, I would suggest looking very closely at the percentage of druid alumni at the colleges she’s considering. It is VERY important to have those alumni connections when you’re looking for your first job.

I understand that druids only recruit from CERTAIN colleges, and if you have not attended one of those schools, it can be very difficult, almost impossible, to get a druid job in anything other than the mailroom. So, do consider druid alumni connections. I believe that Interesteddad has a list of the colleges which send the highest percentage of students into the Druid priesthood. You might want to PM him to get the list so you can make sure you are giving her the best chance to reach her career goal.

Um, jym, H seems to be unhappy for some reason and says I should stop reading about how well VD is endowed.

Are you trying to get the mods paying attention to this thread again??

The depth of knowledge on this board is simply amazing.

The length too, apparently!

HarrietMwelsch-
You had me at “sects on the brain”. Quit making me bust a gut laughing.

carolyn

I mentioned Carleton’s Druid grove. I think it’s the only one that has sustained itself for 30+ years on a college campus, though I’ve read historical accounts suggesting that in the early years, it was an excuse to get out of chapel requirements and then later an excuse to drink holy elixirs. Whatever.

Finaid question here…as you all know DD is considered an international for T.I.T.S. However, the do give some need based aid to internationals, just not merit aid. We are trying to deal with our assets and we think we have a way of doing so…could you please let us know if this will work. We currently have several million dollars in savings which we planned to use for retirement. Of course we recently found out that the finaid folks just view our money as an “asset” to be used for retirement. Because T.I.T.S. is SO far away, we are going to purchase a private jet. This will bring our assets down to mere dollars. And we wondered if the fuel for the plane will be tax deductible as we will use it ONLY to transport DD to T.I.T.S. Will we qualify for need based aid? I ran an EFC calculator but I didn’t see anywhere on it to put the purchase of the jet.

carolyn- I really don’t want to keep having to come back and reclarify for those who gloss over the salient points. My descriptions have been succinct, accurate and clearly stated. To reitierate, D is:

a world class didgeridoo performer under professional contract. Her income is in excess of seven figures.

A full professor of Population Control and BM summa cum laude (jym stay outta this one) guaranteed at UTasmania Conservatorium of Music once the check clears.

A potential Nobel prize nominee for her ground breaking breakthrough in use of the didgeridoo in controlling the cane toad population.

Avocationally, she is a competitive sled-dog racer with previous placements in the top five at Iditerod.

An acolyte in the Druid priestesshood. THIS IS HER TRUE CALLING. She is currently sanctioned by the elders to perform SUPERVISED ritualistic disemboweling of felines, reptiles and small hairless mammals for ceremonial purposes only. She will don her robes as an anointed priestess at the vernal equinox four years hence. The tree gods have already deemed it so. She and I do not need YOUR advice. Stop pontificating.

If you bothered to read the prior posts, I would not have had to restate the obvious.

(binx- that quip, along with Harriet’s “sects on the brain” have my vote for the best oneliners here yet.)

Does anybody else worry about looking at great colleges just as trade schools. Isn’t a liberal arts education valuable in and of itself? Maybe Violadad’s daughter just has deep intellectual passion for druidism. In any case, if she chooses her college on the basis of druid networking, and then her interests change and she wants to go to med-school or into I-banking instead, she may be stuck someplace that’s no longer a good fit. I’ve seen that happen.

thumper1-- sorry, no info on jets. maybe violadad can give you a good deal on a used dog sled if his daughter doesn’t make the college dog sled team. I’ve seen that happen.

thumper- the cost of the jet is considered under travel allocation for international T.I.T.S. Just get a really big pair, in case one goes down. They should agree that two is better than one.

^^HarrietMWelsch, post #435: Yes, of course I would be happy to mentor your son! Wait–he is the one who has qualified for the USA Math Olympiad every year since 7th grade, isn’t he? As a sideline, perhaps he could help with the “technical adjustments” of the pitch in DD2’s application CD for Musical Theater programs, using the knowledge of acoustics he’s already acquired?
