A Meta-thread to save us all time

So Violadad…does this mean that the cost of the jet will be included in her cost of attendance as it is a transportation cost? If so, does that mean the college will award us need based aid to cover part of the jet purchase cost? This financial aid thing is so confusing. I don’t want to ruin DD’s chances of getting financial aid because of a puny couple of million dollars in assets.

Violadad – I hope you don’t make those sects-ual innuendos around druid-daughter. We have freedom of religion in this country.

sacs- Sects, sects, sects! It’s always about the sects! Sects is a personal choice, I don’t interfere.

QuantMech, you’re thinking of S1, who, although he has never medaled in the Math Olympiad, did pass 7th grade several years ago!* Also, he listens to a lot of music on that little what-do-you-call-it, peapod or something. So maybe he can help, particularly if your DD2’s repertoire includes anything on Guitar Hero 1, 2, or 3, or possibly Rock Band.

I was actually asking on behalf of S2, whose knowledge of acoustics is broad and deep but perhaps not as technically advanced - yet. He’s still in kindergarten. But it’s such a passion - and one he demonstrates daily, repeatedly, until those of us who do not share his passion feel, well, deep admiration and a sense of inexpressible irritation, I mean, appreciation. He’s just SO PASSIONATE about figuring out which setup produces the best resonance for each eructation: the bathroom? the kitchen? These, he seems to feel, offer superior echo potential, but lack intensity. The car? Unmatched intensity due to the small space. And what of the effect of mass consumption of carbonated beverage?

You see where I’m going. The pursuit of better understanding is simply paramount with him. Can you help?

*Could this be a hook?

Forgive me for asking this, but I’m too lazy to look it up. What’s an Ivy League College? And I heard that Hogwarts U. is a “new Ivy?” Is it?

Thanks.

Sifting through the post on the Chicago-area homeschooler again, I noticed this item of information posted by wisteria:

“I can’t help noticing that alchemymom has been a member for almost two years, but has made only 31 posts. Her daughter has made 16 posts over the same period. Sounds like good priorities/time management to me!”

Clearly I have been approaching CC ALL WRONG. If I do succeed in replicating skrlvr’s son’s time-machine invention, you’ll know right away. . . . because my post count will start dropping. The # of my posts is obviously the most pressing problem to be solved, once I have a working time machine.

No, but I have heard it referred to as “Harvard of the Brits”

thumper, if you buy 1 jet and purchase jet fuel futures, the jet is a travel expense, the futures are an asset until you sell them to buy fuel. Purchasing 2 jets is allowed under the redundancy clause for international T.I.T.S. See the pictorial spread they should have sent you.

Don’t ask me why. Something to do with wretched excess. I’m not a financial counselor.

^^Harriet M. Welsch, post #464. Ah. Well. Then. Hmm. Your S2’s knowledge of Fourier Series is probably a little sketchier than usual for my “mentees,” but his commitment does sound promising. I would be willing to mentor him, if he would agree to send a CD of his “Burping Cantata” to a few adcoms I could nominate. (Assuming that PDQ Bach hasn’t already done something similar.)

And with that Swarthmore reference, I think it’s probably time to bring up the topic of binge drinking again.

I think sacred elixirs is a nicer way to put it, nceph. We’re talking about a priestess here.

Thanks Violadad…we’ll just skip the fuel until the last minute. If we put fuel onto our credit card, we can earn free hotel points for stays in Tasmania when we fly over to visit.

mafool --Everybody knows Hogwarts is modeled on Yale, but without the benefit of New Haven. Why do people insist on thinking Harvard is the one and only top school when there are three: Harvard, YALE and PRINCETON.

Well, is the priestess consuming more than four of said “sacred elixirs” in a four hour period? That would be of concern.

nceph, could you perhaps direct us to any studies that might shed some light on your assertion?

“He’s just SO PASSIONATE about figuring out which setup produces the best resonance for each eructation: the bathroom? the kitchen? These, he seems to feel, offer superior echo potential, but lack intensity. The car? Unmatched intensity due to the small space.”

It’s wonderful to see such incredible passion spring from the loins of someone who’s only a junior member. Congrats to your son for breaking free of the chains of his lowly background.

For those thinking of applying…UTasmania is NOBODY’s safety! Not anymore. Applications are up 60% the past 3 years. Haven’t you heard of “UTas syndrome”? Neighbor’s son’s best friend’s girlfriend was accepted at H and P, WL at UTas. Love thy safety.

The plural of anecdote is not evidence.

Mythmom – Hogwarts is a hidden ivy. You have to go through bricks in a train station. But it changes lives. The lead guy went to Princeton.

How do you quote something? Like this {{brackets removed, quote, end quote}}? Or does the question mark belong inside?
