Hey, I’d like to tell everyone how great my college is. It really is great. The main reasons I can give you for why it is so great are some anecdotes from people who attended our rival college 30 years ago. Oh, and I’ve dug up some negative articles from our rival’s student newspaper. And I saw someone posted something on the internet about our rival school having ugly girls AND ugly guys. There are just sooooooo many things wrong with the other schools. You just have to assume my college is the best and really the best for everyone (unless you’re a hypercompetitive jerk or an athlete or a binge drinker or ugly or you don’t like to have fun – those people tend to be “happy” at our rival school). HTH.

edit: Oh, and I should also mention that I once met someone who attended our rival school and hated it so much she transferred. I think we can all infer from her experience that that school is just AWFUL and that therefore, MY college is THE BEST.

Oh! “Snoopy vs the Red Baron” was my absolute favorite song in 6th grade!

After the turn of the century
In the clear blue skies over Germany
Came a roar and a thunder men had never heard
Like the screamin’ sound of a big war bird

/ D G / D A7 / D G / A7 D /

Up in the sky, a man in a plane
Baron von Richthofen was his name
Eighty men tried, and eighty men died
Now they’re buried together on the countryside

{Refrain}
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin’ up the score
Eighty men died tryin’ to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany

In the nick of time, a hero arose
A funny-looking dog with a big black nose
He flew into the sky to seek revenge
But the Baron shot him down - “Curses, foiled again!”

{Refrain}

Now, Snoopy had sworn that he’d get that man
So he asked the Great Pumpkin for a new battle plan
He challenged the German to a real dogfight
While the Baron was laughing, he got him in his sight

That Bloody Red Baron was in a fix
He’d tried everything, but he’d run out of tricks
Snoopy fired once, and he fired twice
And that Bloody Red Baron went spinning out of sight

Ah, despair…hopelessness…can’t…go…on…

What, what are you all doing to my thread at night? Do you just wait till I go to bed, to see what depths you can drag it to…?

Every morning, I get up, there’s a song in my heart, and the birds are chirping, I go to my computer, head to CC, and…Omigosh! Animal sacrifice and sex, name-calling and religious infighting!

I thought I’d turned on FoxNews.

You people are sick, sick! <breaks down=“” crying.=“”></breaks>

Good morning!

I got a private message from admin. Someone read my request for information and replied! That was SO exciting!

Here it is (and anyone else who was wondering can check it out): (or is that out:) (Ha! colon inside bracket becomes :)!
"I couldn’t even find the answer to how many posts you need to achieve the dubious distinction of junior member. Maybe it just happens like Glinda tapping you on the shoulder when you least expect it. Or maybe it’s 300? I couldn’t find it on the website,

Good nite and just wanted to say welcome!"

I feel so much better knowing that I’m not posting in vain!

Okay, I’m better now.

BTW, When I was a kid, we had the whole Snoopy and the Red Baron “record” complete with all three songs in the saga, and with “commentary” in between the songs from fake BBC announcers covering the war and the breaking S and RB story as it happened. My bro, sis, and I would act out the action and recite all the fake reporter lines right along with it.

Yes, nerd-dom goes way back in my family.

But Garland, I accidentally posted 2 smiley faces! Doesn’t that trump animal sacrifice?

(Garland, are you actually my brother??? We did that too, in our living room! I loved that song (sixth grade, too!), and my eldest son knows all the words too. He spends most of his time serenading his dorm mates. Thank God, they are allowed guns on that campus!)

Accidental smiley faces do *not *count.

Oops! Is it okay to post a “private message” or is that breaking any rules?

I’m still new so I don’t want to offend anyone.

Yet.

FM, well, I’m sure I’m not your brother, perhaps we could be sisters.

Darn! See, I really don’t know the rules yet!

:) :)

nceph: I realize the latent anger you have since your parents MADE you attend the State Flagship U. Now, with no possible future, you are still pining away after all these years wishing your team had won the annual pigskin trophy. So stinking sorry for you.

If you’ll come to my neighborhood, there are plenty of opportunites for State Flagship U grads. There is the large milk truck (with personal household deliveries) and since Pittsburgh is now the Soot Capital of the US (Thanks for cleaning up your mess, L.A.), there are a large variety of street-sweeping jobs with your name on them, just waiting for your application.

Quit whining (start wining).

BTW: I hear T.I.T.S. is starting a graduate school: UW-PP (under-wire, “pretty plus?”)

Garland, I have five of those sister things and you don’t seem to fit the bill for any of them. Which would you choose to be:

1) Marie: married pentecostal preacher at age 18 (eloped). Had two sons. Left when preacher started snake handling, instead of just foot washing like the Baptists. Now sells artsy-kitschy souvenirs in Asheville, NC (so not New Jersey)

2) Cheryl. No one likes her for a variety of reasons. Librarian in distant overseas nation with no native English speakers.

3) Lee: married to an accountant, with two sons who are accountants. I haven’t had a whole conversation with her in 12 years, due to her completely boring personality. Big news from them: $5,000 tax refund, which they are re-investing.

4) Janie: married three times {AAA baseball player (one son), Bar owner in MIami (one daughter), long-distance trucker (2 german shepherds)}, currently living with “a girlfriend” and her four children. Jane is a flight attendant out of Boston. If you live or fly out of Logan, please re-consider.

5) Maureen: married to a Devry grad (“But it really is the same as an EE degree from MIT or CalTech!”). She sells molded plastic products (a plastics engineer from Clemson) and is a meteorologist by avocation and masters degree. The last would be ok, except… she actually owns ferrets as pets (see Sinners Alley).

Gar, you’d have been better off as my brother!

:)

(just trying it out)

Okay, FM. You convinced me. But, overall, I was definitely more likely to be your sister than your brother.

I bet family gatherings at your house are a hoot!

We used to have a rule: no firearms. Now, it’s no New Spouses (you have to be married for at least 5 years to attend a family function).

The little tab at the top of my Internet Explorer window abbreviates this thread as “A Meta-thread to save us” - I do believe this is more accurate, as the one thing it has NOT saved me is time. But I do believe it has been quite productive in other ways.

Oh - and PS to Fencersmom - Does that mean firearms are now allowed?

OOPS!

I thought my private message was from admin because that’s what “from” said but it was really from paying3tuitions!

Sorry for the confusion, but I’m still new.

Ignorance is no excuse for THE LAW, GreyDad. Perhaps you should buck up on the manual.

We DO have standards here, you know. They are fairly low, but we have them none-the-less.

(My S just asked, "What KIND of standards?)
