Uh oh mythmom. Sorry to interrupt. There’s still 20 minutes to go put in those ^^^ thingies if you wish.

Mathmom, a hoo-house? What kind of neighborhood was that?

EDIT: THis thread IS saving me time. My H just went off to make the next pot of coffee. It’s been ages. I thought he’d lost his grounds for support.

Thank you, posters, for saving me this time.

Dr CCExpert here—what seems to be the problem and how long has it been a problem?

stop enabling your kids–it doesn’t matter what college they go to as long as its a perfect match for their personality. I know some kids that went to the sooo wrong school for them and you dooon’t even want to know the shape they are in now. oh and I can conducr the personality and giftedness testing package thru the collegeboard at $1000. that is with the CC discount, but if you want a report that will be an extra $800 and if you go for the deluxe testing package I will write a slanted report to help in admissions and will send your top 26 colleges said report at $75 per school.

Doesn’t anyone here have a day job? Honestly. I got to work and three pages of posts appear.

harrumph… here at www.wewillrookyou.com (oops, I mean we will ROCK you), we have the perfect college/kid match system. First, we identify all the “dream” schools for your child - those that understand and endorse his pathway, of course. Then, making sure you would have to sell off an additional child to pay for it, we make your kid want that school, and only those schools which:
a. you cannot afford, ever, even with free tuition
b. guarantee your child will never be able to participate in any EC’s in school because all his/her peers will be spending the entire fall semester in the Alps, and the spring semester studying marine biology in Bali, and
c. your parents would never have considered for YOU because they were practical sensible folks and you have both guilt and resentment as a middle aged parent.

Just for CC uber-parents, I am offering a deal: $10,000 covers all, with a slight additional administrative fee for those folks from the NorthEast.

I even offer a tuition payment plan so that the monthly amount will feel… almost like a car payment on a BMW.

There, now go have your supper (of beans and peanut butter).

Actually CC’s college consult services are both professional and reasonably priced.

thumper, I have the day off today (self-given). Kids had last local fencing tournament of their high school years over the weekend (boohoo!), and since I worked that, I decided to stay home and do laundry, cook, and whine (primarily online). Now, if you would quit your job, you could become unproductive, just like moi.

I don’t remember who it was, a couple of years ago, when we were working on establishing our own college here on CC, who volunteered to run the admisssions office (for the good of mankind, all of us were to be unpaid volunteers, even the faculty, or perhaps it was especially the faculty). And then a couple of us (Carolyn, Jmmom, Susievt) decided to veer off and work the other side of the street and became admissions counselors. Ethics then prevented them from becoming our adcom reps, so here we are with fencersmother and others trying to go into competition with them. I’d bet that they have stories that will rival any of the suggestions here, truth generally being stranger than fiction.

When they said on the X-Files, “The Truth is Out There,” it should have read

The Truth is OUT THERE, as in WAY out there.

dadofsam,

I believe you are referring to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/40031-doodling-day-away.html A classic if ever there was one.

Right on; You’re a better searcher than I am, Gunga Din./

Per Greydad:

How can someone who consumes brains (yeah… call it sweetbreads… it’s still brains) question the texture of clams, or the tensile resistance of calamari? Now octopus might be a bit on the chewy side, but calamari? Never, if it’s properly prepared. Delicate, tender and delicious. As are oysters (preferably Malpeques), scallops, clams of all varieties (particularly deep fried belly clams), mussels. Some nice eel, or the cheeks of a nice bass.

But to extole the virtues of brains? :(

You can keep the pancreas, kidneys, liver and your Rocky Mountain oysters.

Nosirree bob. Not for me.

I’d die of starvation in a room full of liver. Rather gnaw my arm off first.

binx, nice job. Take a bow.

Aw come on…if you’re talking about “bad texture” why not include TOFU. The stuff is absolutely awful…makes me gag…not the taste (it has NO taste)…the consistency. I’d rather eat tripe…and that’s right up there with calamari.

Well what about tripe? Come to think of it, this thread is a lot of tripe, except for my posts, of course.

Path A vs. Path B. A lotta tripe, if you ask me.

Anyone ever eat tripe? Consistency of rubber tires. I had it every night for a month because I read in some crazy health food thingy that it was good for asthma.

Well it was good for dieting. No sauces, just the defrosted tire in all its glory dressed with pumpkin seeds. Hey, something had to be edible.

And come to think about it, do you think the history of tripe as a delicacy would make a good college essay with recipes? It’s not all tripe.

Hey Thumper, cross posted. You read my mind!

My summer of preparing tripe a thousand ways and what I learned.

violadad: A bow or a bow? (Viola joke. Remember those?) My S plays viola at times but has the violinists pernicious sense of humor.

He ignored my ideas about an essay about tripe and insulted the adcoms who coincidentally, we all viola players and now he attends Thatswhatyouget U.

Aah, TOFU! I LOVE tofu! Boil it, broil it, bake it, fry it, season it, OH the possibilities!

Look thumper, if you gag on the raw soft, then just try firm!

My second wife cooed when she saw me making a sandwich of raw tofu, sprouts, + heavy duty bread (aah, those were the days! okay, okay, far out days indeed. But healthy!)

And #1 D melted her father’s heart when she ordered: Tofu! Boiled! No sauce! (when was that? 1 year birthday? 2nd?)

Thumper, you can fry tofu so it gets a kind of crust. It is edible that way. Te really mushy stuff makes me gag, too.

GreyDad: Did she actually coo?

violadad:

“How can someone who consumes brains (yeah… call it sweetbreads… it’s still brains) question the texture of clams, or the tensile resistance of calamari? Nosirree bob. Not for me.

(how do you make those nice grey boxes?)

I DO like scallops and oysters. And chopped liver. (not the not-chopped.) Guess I just never had “well prepared” calamari. Didn’t know there WAS such an option. Tender? Delicious?
okey dokey I’ll just leave that on the “not this life, maybe next” list.

“GreyDad: Did she actually coo?”

Yeah. Really. With her eyes. No vocals necessary.

Agreed thump. Tofu is beyond redemption. It might well make a viable wallpaper paste however. The dogs won’t even go near it.

mythmom… you had to bring up tripe. I was trying to avoid that at all costs. Now, there’s edible muscle in the form of various cuts, including chops, ribs, roasts and steaks. Even some marginal portions best suited to braising, stewing, or slow cooking for a week or so.

And then there’s organs. Those inedible nasty bits that one should only consume in survival situations.

And then there’s tripe, in a class by itself. The INSIDES of an organ. Might as well pop out a few eyeballs and munch on them.

And to a true violist, a violinist=vileinist.

Oh. Now I get it, after all these years as a listener. You musicians are really there for all the jokes and stuff. The music and concerts are just a cover to let you keep getting together.

^^the above was patter (not pate) to avoid speaking about strange foods, and to avoid the temptation to print my grandma’s recipe for Cow Tongue.
