A Meta-thread to save us all time

So if I follow correctly, Harriet, DS visited the “excellent-but-the-wind-will-go-outta-his-sails school”. Did you order the torrential downpour and the overnighter with a person who doesn’t bathe?

I did! I received annoying chilly rain, and roommate-of-host-drops-S1-into-unwanted-party situation. Not bad for a beginner, eh? (Never had the opportunity to do this for D; she did coach-arranged overnights.)

And you didn’t even have to pay the smelly partier roomie? Good going!

The squirrels looked agressive. That’s why she wouldn’t get out of the car.

wow-- the meta thread has faded… whats up with that???

All of our perfect children have applied ED to their school of choice and are simply awaiting their assured acceptances.

jym, seems the doom and gloom has taken hold. Financial hits, retirement funds in jeapoardy, jobs tenuous, tuition bills to pay, etc.

Seems a distraction at this point, but I agree many here brought smiles. We (I guess most of us anyway) could use a few laughs.

We can’t afford to make a make a phone call to d at UTas. Can’t use Skype, or send email till we pay the outstanding balance on the internet connection bill. Last I heard her digeridoo had a hairline crack, she’s using a school owned one and it is not concert quality. She can’t afford the repair bill; we can’t afford to ship out her spare. Before the connection went dead on yahoo messenger, she mumbled something about having a new one made by trading her “services”.

Haven’t heard from her since.

Having read CC carefully, including recent reports of admission rep sessions posted by tokenadult, I have concluded that the best way for my nieces and nephews to gain an edge in college admissions is by raising goats. The Yale admissions rep said that she loved the applications from 4-H and FFA applicants. The MIT rep suggested listing “babysitting” as an activity, if true–so MIT would have to be much more impressed by raising goats.

My questions are:
Where can I order a goat most conveniently?
Also, how long does the applicant have to keep the goat, in order to get credit for goat-raising? That is, for college admissions purposes, could our family circulate a single goat amongst all of the nieces and nephews (assuming that there are plenty of potential goat-raisers to last the natural lifetime of the goat)?
Are there any drawbacks to keeping a goat in an apartment?

Disclaimers:
No goats will be harmed in the college application process of any of my family members.
Also, needless to say, no disrespect intended to curmudgeon or his daughter, whose authentic goat-raising is part of my inspiration.

Go over to the political threads – lots of people getting your goat there.

QuantMech, actually, I find that there are one or two posters on CC who routinely get my goat.

So it’s out there somewhere.

Perhaps you can find it and give it to your nieces and nephews, to get them started?

Whoops! X-posted w binx. Baaaaaaah.

In the midst of the stress of trying to get DD to care about and complete her college applications, it is so good to find this thread! I laughed all the way through it.

That’s laughing at you, not with you!

It is so good* to realize that there are parents out there who don’t get it and don’t care about Pathway A, piling up ECs, buying great essays, making their kids retake the SATs until they have memorized every prep book and version of the test, and generally crafting a perfect application. It’s all about the application, after all; who cares about the kids? Holistic, schmolistic. We want to look good, and no sacrifice of integrity or time is too great (or should that be small??) to make! No wonder you have to resort to feeble attempts at humor: the rest of us are laughing all the way to HYPSMZIPPITYDOODAH!

QuantMech-have you sent a PM to curmudgeon yet re: goats?
Harriet-have you phoned up the local gendarmes if someone has stolen your goat?
And seriously, people, goat-raising is sooo laat year, along with pot-bellied pigs. Everyone who’s anyone knows that the proper EC to be admitted to HSWAPYEQMYT is to become mayor of your hometown at age 18.

Are llamas still in, or did they go out with the goats?

How about marmots? Virtual marmots? ;)

mommusic, I’ve been looking and looking and I can’t find ANYTHING that rates the various quadrupeds in terms of prestige. I mean, we can all agree that cashmere goats are ranked #1, no? But what then?

No way, Harriet. It’s alpacas all the way!

Haven’t you listened to *anything *I’ve said here???

Wait. You’re supposed to read other people’s posts?!?

I always feel mine contain the most accurate, most pertinent, and best expressed information, so why bother? If a thread’s getting thin I can always just repost the same thing, maybe all in caps.

BTW Zetesis, I think your opening line was really only a Tier 2.

Tier 2? Then is it all over?

Probably you could hire a private consultant and improve your opening line. Also I think there might be some prep books you could study at great length.

Would someone please review my posting? I’m afraid it’s too long or too short, and it won’t show CC how amazing I really am. Is it unique enough? Intellectual enough? Or can you tell that my posting advisor has sliced and diced it until it’s clearly not in my own voice?

Maybe I should just have my kid write it for me. I’ve heard some other kids do that for their parents. Frankly I’m just too busy to write my own posts.

Raising goats: Are we talking about pack goats, milk goats or meat goats?? Or goats to shear for spinning and weaving?

What about starting a micro lending endeavor for purchasing goats…using adjustable rates?

I am glad to hear from you guys. Youse guys?
