A Meta-thread to save us all time

Okay, whilst you all are brewin’ and sab-o-taging prospies, I’m gonna fictionualize your shenanigans (or, rip of your story for my GAN–Great American Novel.)

And I’m calling it:

It was the Jell-o Juleps, jym

Do we get royalties? Between my name in a book title ( :D) and the cut of the phony-freshman saboteur company, I can retire, and put all my hard earned cash into Lehman Bros and Enron stock

that’s a great idea, jym. I’m always impressed by you money types who really know how to “grow” your investments.

BTW, rest assured you can have a percentage of everything I have made or am likely to make through writing.

Several of us have experienced the young high schooler syndrome “I’m not getting out of the car here!”, after driving to a college or university campus.

For those on the Right Path, what in your opinion causes this syndrome?

Failure to be on the Right Path soon enough.

Immaturity. If they were our age, they’d darned well have to get out after such a long ride, if only to pee.

cottonwood, if the right path fails to yield results, approach it from the opposite direction. This can be termed Pathway B, or the Left Path.

For the undecided, the Middle of the Road Approach is often the best.

Stay away from the “Circuititous Path”, as you end up going in circles and spinning your wheels.

Just my $.02.

I must say I, too, agree with BassDad. Which is why the Right Path has lots and lots of clean, well-lit rest stops.

In my case, my refusal to get out of the car at Icky Univ, a school I had insisted to my mother that we visit despite her warnings of “I don’t think you’ll like it,” was merely a strong indicator that the Almight intended for me to go to that school’s arch rival. And yea, verily, it came to pass that after my refusal to disembark from the car at Icky U, my most unreasonable mother insisted that we stop in at Icky’s Archrival College on the way home, for the ridiculous reason that my guidance counselor had recommended it. And upon first viewing of ArchRival College, I pronounced, “Now THIS is what a college should look like.” And thusly did I end up attending Archrival College, and spent the rest of my life hating Icky Univ.

Now, none of this proves that my mom and my guidance counselor knew better than I did, because I was 17 and therefore I knew EVERYTHING.

However, if either of my kids did this, it would completely allow me to dance around the kitchen saying, “I told you so, I told you so,” in an annoying sing-song voice for the rest of their lives.

So you applied ED at ArchRival College? Did you send your housing deposit in early, too? What did you do to express interest? Any unusual ECs? Did you attend their “Explore ArchRival College in the Rain Days” ??

Oh yes, I applied ED at Archrival. Sent in my housing deposit the first day it was allowed. Looking back, we should have hired a messenger to hand deliver it, but luckily the post office came through for us. Thank heavens, I dread to think of the horror if I hadn’t ended up in my first choice dorm! I did have an unusual EC - I played the bassoon. During my group interview (isn’t it amazing I was admitted via a group interview, and not an individual interview - I guess my natural fantastic-ness came through in a group setting), the interviewer sat up straight and started writing frantically when I mentioned the bassoon. Somehow, the fact that I was possibly the worst bassoon player in the history of the instrument and I had absolutely NO intention of playing the bassoon at college didn’t get mentioned, I’m sure it was just an innocent oversight on my part.

Funny, a couple decades later, DS did indeed attend “Explore ArchRival College in the Absolutely-Pouring-Noah-Get-the-Ark-Nor’easter Rain Days.”

Funny you should mention the weather, Lafalum. I just dropped S1 off for an overnight. Failing to recruit enough fake students (we need to do a little more PR for the biz, I think) to, um, influence his impressions, I fell back on that old standby, my ability to control the weather.

So it’s going to pour Biblical amounts of rain. I bet the campus will look really swell!

Ha. Years ago I took D to State Flagship U when the glorious fall foliage was in full splendor. She wasn’t impressed.

Come to think of it, she visited her choice, the large school in the large city, in winter when it was at its ugliest.

This cost me big bucks. What did I do wrong?

Maybe for our fake students, we could start a CC thread titled “Roommate Horror Stories,” then we could recruit all the horrible roommates to work for us!

Son’s roommate a vampire…blood in mini-fidge.

Harriet-
Is he overnighting at the desired or undesired school? I am guessing the latter. Lafalum has a great recruiting idea. Good plan!!

Sidebar: True story. When I was in college I came back from visiting family for a holiday with some chicken soup in a container. Only refrigerators we had back then were community refrigerators in a common room in the dorm, and anything put in there disappeared quickly. I labelled my soup “urine specimen”. No one touched it :D

Heh, a slightly gentler version of jym626’s story. Same problem with community refrigerators. A friend labeled cheese as “lab cheese.” That also worked.

Have you all seen those anti-lunch-theft baggies? They’re printed on the outside to look like mold.

Ewwww… might be a good diet strategy though. Put yummy cookies in the baggie, then when you look at the moldy bag you lose your desire to eat them.

I agree, Lafalum. Excellent diet aid.

And excellent recruiting idea. You’re now officially on the Board of Directors.

jym, yes, it was a perfectly wonderful, fabulous, excellent school - I just happen to harbor worries that S1 would drift there. From the Right Path, you know.
