A Meta-thread to save us all time

I’d just use the names Malia or Sasha Obama and hope that the adcoms aren’t paying too much attention to the fact that the First Daughters are only in elementary school.

You could cover a lot of bases with the name Eli Leland “Tiger” Woods Kennedy.

This one, by Kierkegaard, should do for this thread.
On the Concept of Irony with Continual Reference to Socrates.

For students about to send off their applications, Shakespeare provides lots of good advice:
The readiness is all
Screw your courage to the sticking place (I know, two different plays).

The election and politics subforum demonstrates Aristotle’s statement that “man is by nature a political animal” (and woman, too).

Say, I’m wondering: Can anybody help me find the Food Chain rankings? I hear they’re very, very important to certain families?

Here’s the full list Harriet, but be careful, there are some that find such lists condescending and will attack at the very thought of giving them credence:

[College and university rankings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](College and university rankings - Wikipedia)

Hi, hmom. Have you read through this thread? I’m guessing not. It’s a humorous, Cafe thread.

No worries, many of those rankings are truly funny!

Harriet, I have a hard copy of the Plankton tier, torn from the pages of a stray USA Today that came my way. Want me to scan it for you?

Was the stray USA Today that came your way (ah, poetry) wrapped around some fish, perchance?

Please do scan it. I’m worried now. I thought we had a fix on Krill U., but maybe not.

Hmmm… could have been, and that would explain the very great interest the cats had in the article. I hope you will excuse the teethmarks.

I’ve been asking around and have found a partial list of the Predator tier, so I’ll scan that, too.

Do you have a sense of what kind of tooth and/or claw preparation is necessary for Predator tier? We’re coming to this a little late.

Oh Harriet, I’m afraid ‘a little late’ just won’t do at all for Predator tier. The typical Predator student has been sharpening his teeth and claws since elementary school, and is already taking Multivariable Prey-Stalking at the local cc.

There are a couple of other ways in, though. Could your child be a recruited carnivore, (preferably in the largest division)? Or else a URM (underrepresented moose)?

Booklady, S2 is perhaps a tad small to be a recruited carnivore. Then again, consider the velociraptor. Perhaps we should get the ball rolling.

Re the timing, yes, I feel already that we’ve failed him. After all, first grade is more than half over.

Well then you might as well face facts: he’ll be looking at the Vertebrate Tier, tops. And perhaps the Mollusk schools for safeties.

Tube worms. Do not forget about the tube worms schools: the HOT underwater ivies.

I just KNEW we called him Benthos for a good reason! Thanks, mafool!

Of course all of our children will be admitted to all of the schools that interest them, but if you have a friend or neighbor whose child wants to go to a top 20 school and needs your advice, here is a way to help. I looked at the wikipedia link hmom5 posted and then jumped from there to the FSP Index page and found a terrific list of top 20 schools. (Actually, there were multiple lists of top 20 schools. I liked this one.)

New strategy: S2 is busy writing a new set of essays, centered on the classic struggle of SpongeBob v Plankton. Thoughts?

Excellent choice! This topic has epic potential, akin to The Odyssey or Beowulf, or the history plays of Shakespeare. Just be careful he watches the word limit.

If the essays turn out to be too long, your S can always claim he has written an (unpublished) book. Great hook.

He’s already started. He’s drawing such lovely comparisons to La Chanson de Roland, as well, and a few Canterbury Tales references. Squidward, you know, is just . . . well it’s hard for me to explain.
