I think this thread needs to be revived.

I NEED to know how Violadad’s daughter is doing. Has she fulfilled her dream of being a Druid Priestess? How are the sled dogs?

I NEED to know how Violadad’s daughter is doing. Has she fulfilled her dream of being a Druid Priestess? How are the sled dogs?

I think ViolaDads daughter would have had better results if she had used the sled dog racing to train seeing eye dogs.

This thread’s ears must be burning. Its being talked about…

I just love this last post from the original life of the thread:

Don’t you people know enough to let sleeping dogs lie???

Now they’re all barking.

And they really are PITAs. I have a special ringtone on my cell for D’s number. Every time she calls, they start howling. Then they want to hear her voice. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR HER TO SAY HELLO TO FIFTEEN DOGS???

OK fess up, violadad. You are just posting to beat me out on the post count in this thread. Besides, we all know the iditarod dogs are in Alaska right now

The best thread ever.

This thread could easily be published as a satire/commentary on Amy Chua. In fact, her book is clearly quite derivative…

Violadad–you feed the dogs pitas??? No wonder they’re barking.

I think I can safely say that starting this thread (though its true artistry is the work of many more brilliant minds) has been the biggest achievement of my life.

Sigh.

He can feed them my sibling. He is a PITA.

I wish I had known about this thread long ago. Based on a quick scan, Garland’s original pathology begat some wondrous improvisational humor. Now, my compulsions will force me to blow a weekend catching up to a thread that is probably played out anyway. D@@@ you, Garland! :)

Yes, this WAS fun.
New blood is a good thing…go for it!

This is my favorite thread of all time.

I want an update…what happened to the student? Did playing the digeridoo continue all the way through college? Grad school in sight??? Or a job…oh what major???

Sorry, Bogney. If it makes you feel better, I had no ideas what demons I was unleashing. But this may go down in history as my biggest contribution to posterity (and don’t think I haven’t been up many late nights drinking and pondering that reality…)

Oh No!! My favorite thread of all time, and now I can’t remember all of it and will have to go back and read it all over again. There goes pretending that I am not always here :(

And now that I am part way through it - the post counts are a riot, particularly since the counting parties are now WAY over the counts they had then :)

Bumping this up and also anxiously awaiting updates on violadad’s DD

In the meantime a few brief updates on my five octuplets, who having been raised rightly on the rightest path by the rightest parents, are so accelerated that they are all now in grad or professional schools (fully-funded!!!) and off the parental dole, thank you thank you, we are so happy!!! :)

Well ,DD1Donnie is sort of an exception. He got his undergrad degree from Wharton, even though we were advised by* those who know* that this was a very bad career move because, really, “what does one do with such a degree?” But we are, of course, rightest parents and encouraged our entitled child to follow his bliss and go ahead and major in business even though we knew there probably wouldn’t be any jobs and weren’t too surprised when, in fact, there weren’t - jobs, that is. Fortunately a suitemate (classics major) with an outside grant (what other kind are there? - could someone please explain this?) got him a spot on an ongoing archeological excavation in a very far off kind of undeveloped country with frequent civil unrest so he is doing just fine! And so, no one will ever convince me that the networking opportunities at these Ivy League Schools aren’t well worth the tuition. His plan when the funding runs out on the dig is to just go ahead and start one of those interesting companies that quickly get famous and then sold for a billion dollars. So we are pretty confident his future is all set. :)

DD1Flopsey is doing important science but it seems her PI may be moving the lab to China or India or Spain. Do you think it will be UN- American and UN-Patriotic if she goes with him? I wonder if she can just telecommute from her apt? Is this possible? What with skype and everything? I know she’ll need a bench (which she doesn’t have) but I have a very nice 18th c one (with some original paint) that doesn’t fit into my downsized getting ready for retirement home and I could just take it to her on the helicopter. I also have more mice than I really need in this house so I could bring some of those, too. But here’s a question for the scientists reading: Do the mice really have to be a certain color? And, if so, can I just dye them? And, if so, is clorox okay or do I have to get a kit from the drugstore? And, if so, what color do you suggest? :)

DD2Mopsey studies late-temple pre-historical languages in very far away places that had a bronze age and, coincidentally, is dating the classics major. The classics major from Penn. Could someone who knows how please go ahead and start one of those sticky threads with the title: * I live near a university, am on the faculty, and my department has an assistant professorship available for your child* If the thread gets too big, maybe we can break it up into specialties? Thanks in advance :)

I will update you later on DD3CT and DD2Peter but at the moment they are taking a well-deserved break from their studies. They are so entitled to have some fun with all the work they do!! They are camping with some friends in NYC. It was news to me this is even allowed but I think these tippy toppy grads just have so many opportunities to do things my DH and I could never have imagined… But I want to pose a question that I am sure some of you can help with. They have decided, rather on the spur of the moment, to go on to London this week but didn’t bring their passports. When I pulled them (the passports) out I discovered they were expired. So, how can I get these passports renewed (without them present) and in their hands within 48 hrs at the latest? 36 would be better? Who has already been there and done that? Thanks
And maybe you have ideas for ways to leave the country without passports? If so, maybe you better just PM me. Thanks.
What if I used the helicopter? Would that work?

One more thing: Have any of your kids already won the Nobel, or gotten one of those MacArthur or Guggenheim awards? If so, what were their stats? EC’s? If you don’t want to put too much personal information on a public board, you could maybe just change your user name for that post. or PM me. Thanks :)

Well, sure, update us on the five octuplets you’re proud of … but what about the other three? Hmmm? There’s a reason you’re holding out on us. Let me guess. State schools. (Heavy sigh.) Oh well, at least you tried.
