A New Breed of "Chances!" Thread

So yeah, this isn’t the typical chances thread, as I am already admitted and heading to UCLA this fall. What I’m worried about, is…what are my chances of surviving??? Honestly though, I did really well in highschool, but that’s because my highschool was not competitive at all and even AP classes were easy as hell. I almost never studied for more than an hour most nights and I got by very easily. I’m not trying to sound smart or arrogant about my abilities (and sorry if you see it that way) but I’m seriously scared ****less that UCLA is going to stomp all over me. I’m of course trying to be optomistic about it and everything, but I’m heading in a life science dirrection and something tells me the competition is going to fry me.

I already went to orientation and it was great! Met tons of awesome people and UCLA looks awesome, and here are the classes I plan on taking. Let me know what you think:

1 Math 3B - Weinstein (yeah, somehow got a 5 on the AP Calc! Woot!)
2 Chem 14A - Lavelle
2 EthnoMus 50A - Harrison

Just a, “no way! take another GE instead of math this quarter to ease up your schedule!” or a “that looks fine!” will do nicely to give me some confidence or help me escape a hard schedule if need be! Thank you all in advance!

office hours, remedial work in the beginning, and self-confidence and sticking it out will be enuff when u need help. i had a POS background to obut im good now

sounds good bro, trust me, I’m not too freaked out… I’ll keep as positive as I can for as long as I can

bro… -_-;

tip, birdman: mme-lin = emmeline = not bro.

haha sorry sorry, I don’t mean anything by it! Thanks for the advice (Ma’am)!

you’ll be fine. besides, marching band will keep you disciplined with your time.

you’re still doing that, right?

it should be pretty easy actually, 3B is not hard stuff, 3C is multivariable right? lavelle is pretty easy if you study and ethnomusic is just cakewalk…

For the 3 series, 3B is partly multivariable and 3C is statistics.

liyana, I actually did not end up doing it. Sad, I know, but I thought I might be too busy getting used to college to devote time to marching band. It’s too late now to audition isn’t it? I was highly considering it at first then I figured out the band that goes to basketball games is a “varsity band”, which kinda set me off. I kinda regret not trying out, but at the same time, I’m still going to games of course and other groups on campus hopefully.

and thank you everyone for the input, much appreciated!

well, go to a football game and i guarantee i’ll see you on the field next year ;)

or, if you want less of a time commitment try the symphonic band or some other music thing, because giving up music entirely can be kind of depressing.

Without music we would not have Boombox Boy and that would be a damn shame

Dont worry about it, sometimes mme-lin wishes she had a ***** so she can force herself on pink.

I already do! Thanks, Sir!

sometimes i wish i had a ***** so i could pee, like in porta potties or whatever.

i need to invest in those she-nis things.

It’s true, urinals are the bomb (but you gotta look out for splash-back).

And I thought marching band auditions went through August? Of course, it depends on your instrument. What do you play, B1rdm4n?

sax

keyboard too, but if I eventually do marching band in a future year I’m guessing sax is what they’d want. It is too late right?

I play sax too. I was told in late May that the section was almost filled, so I think it’s safe to say yeah. Brass get more time because they’re so needed in marching band, while it’s apparently easy to find the woodwinds. I know a trombonist who sent in her audition in late August and was admitted, but a Clarinet who sent his in in June and was told the section was full. I’m bummed you won’t be there - I could have had another section buddy. Definitly double check availability for your specific sax (just call the assistant, Jennifer Judkins, and ask her to be sure), but I hope otherwise you join us next year!
