Could they call this a project for their government / civics course?
I think it’s up to the adults to find a candidate with more experience, more to offer, than a 16 year old kid.
If they can’t, then they don’t deserve to win.
The kids will have a great experience. They won’t win but it’s absolutely worth it for all the learning and growing they’ll do.
Well, their elders are doing a horrible job, and handing them the bill. Maybe they will do better.

A high school senior in a neighboring town recently got elected to the High School Board of Education (a 3 year term - must be a resident of the town). Aside from the obvious conflict of interest in my opinion (including that many things discussed by the board are confidential about employees and students), what are the odds he stays in this town to attend college come September (it is not a college town although he could commute to our local State U.)
In this case, I think it is a resume ploy for the kid (He got lots of state press about being the youngest elected official, etc.)
Kansas govt has been a huge mess lately. I say, good for them!
