There’s a lot of KC decision regrets. Going for the FG with 11 seconds left when they could have taken another crack at the end zone might be one. Not shading a safety/double teaming against Gronk on either pass thrown to him in either the final drive in regulation or in OT. Challenging a call that lost a what-would-be a critical timeout.
Not quite. 45 wins and 5 ties out of 87 is 54.6% counting ties as half wins. Out of non-tie games, 45 wins out of 82 is 54.5%.

That’s great, but no one wins, if both teams get the same exact % amount for the tie. Right?
People in Nola are upset that the ref that missed the call, the one closest on the sideline, is a former Ram’s player and a current LA resident. The NFL needs to get serious with their refs. Olympic judges are often excluded from finals if they are from the country that made the finals. I wonder if the NFL should do that too.

Wow! Maybe the guy thought he could be 100% objective, but imo he should never have been put in the position in the first place.

Just because he lives in LA doesn’t make him a Rams fan.
What’s more likely - he threw the game to the Rams because he’s a fan, opening himself up to terrible internet reaction and probably death threats, or that he just horribly bungled the call. In real-time it probably didn’t look that flagrant, and he didn’t want to let a penalty determine the outcome of the game.
Don’t forget, NO had the ball first in the overtime. Brees blew it by throwing up an interception, and Greg the Leg made them pay. He tried to force it, the pass got partially deflected into a wounded duck and it went right to the defender. Should’ve taken the sack and lived for another play.
Maybe Brees should be taking the heat for not protecting the ball in the most critical drive of the game.
Interesting discussion on ESPN and The Score today. They were talking to an ex ref and he was saying the new guys rely to much on New York to make the call. So then I wondered… Do we really need local refs to make the calls? Same with baseball. Do we really need homeplate umps? With AI and sensors and… Cough, cough New York… It seems we might be more accurate without them.
The Saints had a ton of chances to win, including getting the ball first in overtime. Yes, a missed call, but lots of other missed calls in the game. That’s football. Now with 87 cameras and replays and computers to look up the rules, every call is a bad call. It’s like golf has become with people calling in hours after a match ends and reporting they saw Tiger double tap or a ball moved by a fan.
To me, it takes the fun out of it. Yes, it was a bad call. The ref missed it. It’s over. I don’t want them to make pass interference a reviewable call. There would be too many questionable ones. It’s not like the refs didn’t miss the pick play by the Chiefs yesterday or several PIs against Gronk. It’s football.
I don’t think it matters that the Ref lives in LA or played for the Rams a million years ago. The Rams were in StL then. The guy might have grown up in Pittsburgh or New Orleans or NYC and have childhood favorite teams too. If you start eliminating the teams they can ref, you’ll have no trained crews of refs, because they do work as crews. The next crew might have someone who went to the same school as Sean Payton or whose son went to school with Drew Brees. My brother is a ref and he claims that when the game starts, he doesn’t see teams or individuals, just dark shirts and light shirts. He does recuse himself from games his nephews are in, but usually he knows many of the coaches, parents, kids from both teams and he just calls the game.
I’m sorry Saints fans, this isn’t the first bad call that has changed the outcome of a game. It’s not even the first bad call at a conference championship game.
It’s getting tiresome. Again, I’m not a fan of either team.
I’d bet its more of a psychology thing: I don’t want a call I make to decide a game, particularly if that call is not clear and convincing. [IMO, this was clear and convincing.] In other words, they let them play.
But think about Hail Mary’s at the end of games. Every defensive coach will tell his players to grab/hold in the end zone bcos 99.99% of the time no ref is gonna call a PI unless its a clear assault.
No different than NBA games. I still remember the Cavs-Warriors final with the Warriors inbounding the ball in the last few seconds down by a bucket. Lebron was literally draped over Steph Curry right in front of the inbounder at mid-court. Every camera angle showed it. The refs had to see it too, but just swallowed their whistle so-to-speak to not make them the focus of the game ending.

I’m a Rams fan and I’m thrilled they are in the Super Bowl. I hope they destroy the Patriots. But I certainly wish the bad call hadn’t happened. I would have preferred a clean win. Heck, I wish all bad calls didn’t happen. I have a lot of sympathy for the NO team and fans, but in the end that’s football. You play your best and take your chances. Sometimes bad calls go against you and sometimes they are a big boost. I’m sure they even out over the long run. But I know that’s got to be no solace for the Saints right now.
