A.P English Language/A.P English Lit

Can anybody break these two A.P courses do for me? Im debating which one I want to take and cant seem to find much imformation on either courses. I will be taking it online via Wisconson Virtual School.

Language is more about writing and literature is more about reading. Which area of English would you say you’re better at?

Id say im relatively good, probably a little better at writing…but im a pretty good english student. And as to your description of the courses I thought thats what the courses were as well, but I just revisited the WVS website and it gives a breif description of the objectives of the course. But it stated as if A.P Language was dealing with reading, while A.P Lit was more about comprehension and critical thinking, with more of a writing emphasis.

Lan deals with non-fiction and essays stuff. Lit concentrates on more like the fictions, poems, and prose.

ap eng lang imo is a lot like the sat critical reading + writing sections

English Lit is the harder test, so if possible you should try to sequence language before lit.

they’re basically the same except lang is more non-fiction while lit is more fiction

I took AP Lang last year and got a 5 on the test. I am in Lit now. You could probably take the Lang test without reading any books for the whole year - it is about argument and analysis of passages. Lit, however, has a reading list. You will have to write about actual books on the test. I would definitely recommend taking Lang over Lit.

Thank you all for the great responses. I have decided im going to take Eng Lit. I love reading and anaylzing literature. So I feel even though Lang is the easier test, Literature is more for me. Plus the non-fiction aspect of Lang is a turn-off, dont get me wrong I love non-fiction, but they really have to suit my tastes…
