A peculiar situation - chance me?

University of Illinois. 3.8 GPA in English and political science, 34 ACT, standard unimpressive prelaw ECs (poli sci club, mock trial) and some psych research. Interned in a law office, local congressman’s office, Obama campaign in Iowa before the January caucus. Studying at Oxford for a summer course, not sure if this is mentionable.

BUT:

Classes have only been 100-200 level for the most part and usually 4 a sem., took recommendations from those and thus are average-to-mediocre. Also, I’ve withdrawn twice, first for being an amateur freshman and avoiding bad grades, second for medical reasons.

Chances for Chicago, NU, Grinnell, WashU, other top LACs? Is Notre Dame too Catholic-y? (I’m agnostic) And Penn/Dartmouth worth the application?

Just a suggestion…I would write that you volunteered and campaigned during the primaries, but wouldn’t mention who it was for. When I had my teacher write an evaluation, she asked what I had been up to lately so she could write a better evaluation. I told her I volunteered for the Hillary Campaign, and she told me she would put that, but not that it was for Hillary. She said even though it shouldn’t matter…this IS a close contest, and Hillary and Obama supporters are practically enemies right now. She said if a Hillary supporter read my app, it might help slightly, but if an Obama supporter read it, it might actually hurt me slightly.

Just passing along the advice.

Any suggestions in my app on the course load / withdrawal situation?
